Lovely and unusual handmade ceramics, with a unique vintage twist

My name is Kate and I work in my garden workshop in York, North Yorkshire. I have loved ceramics since school and rediscovered my passion after following an entirely different career path.
Skullduggery Ceramics offers unique handmade ceramics that are both lovely and unusual. My ceramics are inspired by my Grandma Betty’s ‘best’ teapot and tea cups – which we were never allowed to touch! My work is influenced by lovely vintage china in pastel ice cream colours, and my love of baking and eating cake; I believe a good cake stand disguises less than perfect baking. I combine vintage textures and designs with Day of the Dead/Calavera-inspired skulls.

I use studio white earthenware clay, and use handbuilding techniques, including slabbing, coiling, pinching and occasionally using moulds. I texture many of my pieces with vintage linen doilies from an extensive collection built up over several years from fairs and auctions. Finished pieces are slowly dried before being biscuit fired up to 1000°c. Each piece is carefully waxed and hand painted with 3 coats of food safe earthenware glaze, before fired for a second time up to 1050°c.

I only make things that I like and use, so I hope you like them too.
