A delightful addition to my Carolyn Weir family of mobiles. A family that hangs together stays together. I just love your stuff. Thank you so much. Having your mobiles helps make life better.

I couldn't be happier with this mobile - beautiful design and excellent construction. I hung it in a room with a ceiling fan and was worried that it might make noise and/or get tangled. Even with the fan on high, it is weighty enough and balanced, so it just spins slowly without any racket! Love it!

I have always wanted to do a series of hand painted mobiles based on the masters. Here is the first one based on Monet's Garden
I've always said my paintings look much better cut up. Can't wait to get started on this new batch of hand painted mobiles

About

Unique Ceiling Art that Moves - Kinetic Mobiles are Awesome!

Daydream on Purpose!

Hi! I'm Carolyn Weir, the owner, artist, media manager, bookkeeper, shipping director, product developer and advertiser for Skysetter Mobiles. Did I get it all in there? So, if things aren't quite spiffy and polished, if something is misspelled or grammatically incorrect... yup, I did it! And if its done well I did that too.

One thing that doesn't get missed is the construction quality of Skysetter Mobiles. My goal is to create a mobile sculpture that moves easily in the environment it was created for. Most of my sculptures were created to move indoors with the lightest air currents. This means that they are made very lightweight. Please don't mistake the use of lightweight materials for lack of quality, I use the best quality materials I can find to make your kinetic mobile sculpture.

A little about myself :-) I was born in the 60's in the San Francisco area and raised in the beaches of the South Bay of Los Angeles.... Hermosa Beach was my favorite. I was around many artists in my teens and spent as much time as I could with Bob Carannza, a silversmith. He taught me the art of drilling turquoise and string beading the old fashioned way. From there I spent my whole life searching for a way to make a living creativity.

As a teen I made beaded jewelry that sold in local boutiques and sewed pillows to sell on the corner of the highway like a lemonaide stand. As an adult I continued to hone my sewing skills and made costumes for dancers, kites I would later fly all over the world, and quilts I still sleep under every night. I opened an ebay store in 2002 making and selling knitting needle cases and tote bags, purses, baby quilts, etc. In 2006 I returned to making jewelry while learning the art of wireworking, skills I continue to use today.

But it wasn't until 2009 that I found my true calling, kinetic mobile sculptures. I made a piece of wire jewelry for a friend and they mentioned that it was "kind of kinetic". Not knowing what they meant I searched online for kinetic jewelry, found Alexander Calder's work, and was completely hooked. My first thoughts were... wouldn't they look cool painted and I wonder what a moving painting would look like.

Off on a new adventure I had to figure out everything from scratch. Even today there are limited resources on "how to make a kinetic mobile". I also had to learn how to paint. But, I was very fortunate that the Mississippi Arts Commission gave me grants so I could learn to paint, work with copper, and essentially become an artist in many mediums.

I left the corporate world (accounting and management) to create kinetic mobile sculptures in my studio as of January 2013. Today I make a living creatively. It is a full time job that starts when I wake and ends when I fall asleep the moment my head hits the pillow. I have a number of online stores as well as a good old fashioned brick and mortar gallery gift shop openend August 2016, Crafted Gallery Gift Shop at 114 N. Commerce Street, Natchez, MS 39120 with my business partner, Sarah Freeman Carey, where you can find my jewelry and paintings as well as mobiles hanging in the shop. I've been married to the same loving wonderful man since 1989 who puts up with the artist crazies and is always on the lookout for my next great tool that will make everything just that much easier to make the next great piece of art!
