I purchased this mobile in black and white for my son's crib. He enjoys staring at it and is amazed at how it moves. Not to mention looks great in the nursery! Carolyn was such a pleasure working with and accommodating me on exact dimensions.
Unique Ceiling Art that Moves - Kinetic Mobiles are Awesome!
Daydream on Purpose!
Hi! I'm Carolyn Weir the owner and creator of Skysetter Mobile Designs - I left the corporate world to create kinetic mobile sculptures in my home studio as of January 2013. I began creating mobiles in 2009 and it has been the most interesting journey of my life.
As a former Kite Flyer and Kite Maker, I take great joy in seeing colorful shapes aloft. I wanted to bring some of that artistry into my home and the homes of others. After discovering Alexander Calder, Timothy Rose, Theo Jansen, Lin Emery and others, I was intrigued by the possibility of creating beautiful kinetic sculptures. In addition to creating mobiles with solid colored shapes I discovered the joy of watercolor painting and have found a way to join the beauty of watercolors and the interesting movement of the kinetic mobile. I'm thrilled with the possibility of creating unique artistic sculptures daily. I hope that my enthusiasm flows into my work and to you!
I absolutely love what I do. Watching the intricate movement of a kinetic mobile the way it hypnotically moves with the air currents of a room still fascinates me to this day. I love how the subtle movements of a large mobile in a large space will take you by surprise, taking different shapes and configurations without seeming to move. It is interesting how every time you look at a mobile it will be in a different position. And even if you have very little to no air flow in a room my mobiles will still change position and show you a different side of its beauty.
My construction follows a few strict guidelines.... 1. Make a mobile sculpture out of the best possible materials I can find so the mobile will last for decades. 2. Make sure the mobile moves easily by constructing with lightweight materials. 3. Make it beautifully unique and my own style through configuration or painting.
If I had my dithers I would create only hand painted mobiles. The creative journey of putting paint to cotton rag, metal or wood is something I will do for the rest of my life. I use only the best cotton rag papers, artist quality paints, professional grade glues and sealers, sealed ball bearing swivel and stainless steel wire to ensure that every mobile that leaves my workshop is a long lasting light weight kinetic mobile sculpture that will entertain relax hypnotize and inspire the viewer to go on a daydream for a lifetime...... or at least a few moments a day.
But my solid colored mobiles made out of a lightweight flexible plastic material is what pays the grocery, light, water, fuel, and internet bills. I love knowing that somewhere someone is getting some much needed relaxation due to one of my handcrafted kinetic mobiles and it will last for decades. Daydream on purpose!
