Shop policies

Last updated on March 15, 2011
This shop is dedicated entirely to finding new homes for the vintage telephones that I have found, purchased, recovered or salvaged, then refurbished to the best condition possible. It is dedicated to the legend of the Bell System pre-1984 and their dedication to service and reliable technology, and I aim to live up to those expectations as much as a single person can!

Accepted payment methods

  • Money Order
Returns and exchanges
The extremely individual nature of these phones makes it very difficult to define a singular, universal return/exchange policy, but obviously we must plan for the worst case scenario.

If, upon receiving the package, you feel that the phone you ordered is not exactly as it was described, we can discuss a return, exchange or repair. The replacement of parts or a partial refund can also be discussed. I regret that all shipping in such a case is the buyer's responsibility, and as long as the phone is fully functional upon receipt, I reserve the right to refuse any return or exchange (which doesn't mean I will!)

Another option is selling the phone back to me, which I am always interested in; please see Additional Information for, well, additional information on that subject.
I prefer PayPal for payment for simplicity's sake, but if you would like to purchase something and simply can't use PayPal, please contact me before making your purchase so we can discuss details.
Every phone is shipped in a flat rate USPS box, within three days of receiving payment for your order, unless I am out of town or otherwise not at home, in which case this fact will be clearly indicated on the front page of the shop.
If you would prefer to receive your phone via some other form of shipping, please contact me before you make your purchase. I will ask you to pay the difference between my standard shipping methods and your preferred one.
Additional policies and FAQs
The Bell System had a team of phone repairmen who would show up at your house and fix or replace your telephone for free any time you had a problem. How excellent that must have been!
Of course, they had a few things that I don't; thousands of employees, and thousands upon thousands of extra telephones...
However, in that spirit I do offer free labor and some free parts towards repairing any telephones you buy from me.

If any functional problem with the phone develops during its time in your life, let me know! I will gladly go through the following process to try to make it right:

1. I will discuss the process of diagnosing and fixing the problem with you if you are comfortable attempting such a thing, and give you pointers and suggestions towards getting it working again.

2. If that doesn't work out, you can send the phone back to me and I will do any necessary repairs on it. In most cases, I will not need to charge for parts, but if I think it's likely that I will, I will be sure to let you know before you send the phone to me. You must pay for shipping.

3. Once it is operational again, I will send it back to you. Again, you must pay for shipping.

As mentioned above, I am always interested in buying phones back from you that you have purchased from me. Keep in mind that the price I will be willing to pay reflects the facts that your original shipping costs, my repair guarantee, and the original time I put into fixing the phone were reflected in your original purchase price; you won't be making all your money back, but I will offer you a fair price for your telephone! If you would like to trade towards another phone, that can be discussed too!

Oh, and keep in mind that when I say "forever" in the listings, that really means "as long as I'm doing this kind of thing", which I certainly hope will be a long long time! :)
