WHERE DO I GET THE YARN?
From Thrift Stores. I wash cotton sweaters while they’re still in sweater form, then I unravel them, wind them on racks and dry flat to get the kink out. Wool sweaters are washed once they’ve been unraveled to avoid felting the yarn. I only use ECOS laundry soap (great stuff, you gotta try it).
The majority of smart monkey yarn is recycled from natural fiber sweaters. But I do use sweaters with synthetic fibers if they are a small percentage of the yarn content.
More wool yarn will be available once everyone gets tired of felting.

WHY GO TO ALL THE TROUBLE?
Because our planet is smaller than we think and we should all do our little bit to manage the resources we have. Synthetic/petroleum based fibers and dyes pollute the environment. Imported items take away jobs from Americans and screw up our trade deficit.
Smart Monkey yarn puts local people to work at thrift stores, reduces waste in our landfills and the amount of pollutants on our planet, re-uses a man-made resource and eliminates the need for production of new resources.
