Smidge House : To Make a Long Story Long

I’ve always been obsessed with anything miniature. I was a Barbie freak as a kid, but I was mostly interested in her stuff– I’d always choose a new living room set over a new doll!

After college, I bounced around doing a gazillion different jobs. I was pretty flummoxed, career-wise-- nothing seemed to fit quite right. Then, one day, I stumbled across some photos online of the Barbie Dream Store that I’d had as a kid. I hadn’t thought about dolls in years, but suddenly, it’s all I thought about. (At the time, I had no clue there was a gigantic doll community out there, that felt the same way!)

Combining my love of dolls and their stuff, and my total obsession with furniture and design just seemed like a no-brainer! (Now that I’m writing it down, it seems completely crazy, lol) I wanted to make things that I would want in human scale-- a cool mix of modern and vintage styles, eclectic but sexy rooms. I didn't really want to make "doll furniture," I wanted to make amazing furniture and accessories that just happened to be small.

I spent about a year building 1/6 scale prototypes, (did I mention I’m a perfectionist?) and then opened Smidge House at the end of 2009.

A few months after the shop opened, I started getting approached about building props and sets for stop animation movies & television. This completely blew my mind, of course, but I'm obsessed with learning new things, and I'm a total workaholic, so I jumped right in. Being constantly challenged creatively, and being able to do so much hands on work keeps things from ever being dull.

These days I split my time between Smidge House, creating film sets, and a writing career that is taking up more & more time. Aaaaand sometimes I just sit around and daydream about Tom Selleck. I'm multi-talented that way. ;)

To this day, every single step, from planning to mock ups to supply shopping, to building, painting, nailing, sawing, gluing, upholstery, staging, photography, packing and thank you notes is all done by one person-- me. I am not a factory, and every piece that leaves here has had my undivided attention in making it a special ooak piece of art. (My boyfriend does do an occasional run to the post office for me. Thank you, sweetie!)

I'm not sure (and never am) which direction I'll head in next, lol. I do know that never in a zillion years did I expect this to become as popular as it has, and I sincerely thank every customer, and everyone who has helped along the way. :)

As you can see, I write a lot. If you'd like to hang out with me when I chatter, you can visit the blog at

Hello, and Welcome to Smidge House! Any info you don't find here might be found in my profile:)

Accepted payment methods

Returns & exchanges

See item details for return and exchange eligibility.

I accept Paypal only. Please pay for your item immediately after purchase. Purchases not paid for within 24 hours will be canceled and relisted, unless we have made other arrangements. Thanks!

Your item will be safely and securely packaged to insure a smooth ride from my shop into your hands. All packages will ship out ASAP, within 3 business days of your payment. Usually much sooner.

I ship via USPS, with tracking. First class for items under 13 ounces. If you would like a specific method of shipping, please convo me before your purchase. Thanks!

International packages will ship first class international with insurance. International priority shipping is outrageous for tiny, light packages, and doesn't make sense most of the time. If you would like to request International Priority or Express, I will gladly send it that way, but the shipping will change:)
I'm sure you all know that international shipping can take a few weeks, even longer sometimes, but usually not that long. I've bought loads of stuff here on Etsy, and never had to wait longer than a few weeks for an international package. Also, this is where I say I am not responsible for customs charges, or any additional costs your country may charge for postage upon receipt. But you probably knew that already.
