About smilemercantile

On Etsy since 2010

Delivering Smiles and Delight Since 2010.

I like to think of the Smile Mercantile as an old-time General Store with friendly and reliable folk working behind the counter. I source quality craft supplies from all over the globe, and especially enjoy finding special vintage-style items that inspire nostalgia. Many of the handmade seasonal decorations in the shop are inspired by antique Christmas ornaments and old-world designs.

All orders are carefully packaged, and ship worldwide from Seattle. I am 100% committed to customer satisfaction. Please feel free to contact me at any time: valerie [!at] smilemercantile.com

Frequently asked questions
When will my order ship?

Most orders ship in 1-3 business days. I do not ship on holidays or weekends. Orders are processed in the order in which they are received. Selecting Priority Mail shortens shipping time, but does not change the time it takes to process your order.

How long does shipping take?

2021 Update: Some postal services are seeing occasional delays, and USPS delivery estimates may be inaccurate. Thank you for your patience.

Domestic:
Standard first class shipping is typically 4-7 business days within the US. Priority Mail is 2-3 days to most areas. These times are estimates provided by the USPS, and are not guaranteed.

Large orders over 4 pounds are shipped via UPS or FedEx, which usually takes about 5 business days.

International:
International shipping times vary greatly, and cannot be estimated. 4-6 weeks is typical for many destinations, but customs-related delays can extend the shipping time significantly. Once a package leaves my hands I have no control over how long it will take to arrive.

Free US Shipping Offer:

I offer free shipping for US orders over $45. All items must be from my shop to qualify. This offer is good for standard shipping only. Expedited shipping options are available for an extra charge. Returns of any item from a free shipping order are subject to a $5 restocking fee which will be deducted from the refund once the return has been received.

Why is shipping so expensive?

I hear you. USPS postal rates went up in January 2021 which affected most weight categories for both First Class and Priority Mail. International rates saw an extreme increase, including lightweight shipments to Canada.

Additionally, Etsy is now charging sellers two fees on shipping: 5% on all shipping charges plus a 12% fee on all sales and shipping charges that result from Etsy's mandatory advertising program. Due to these extremely high fees I have had to place a small surcharge on my shipping costs here on Etsy.

I have always tried to maintain fairness when it comes to shipping charges. This is why I have a year-round offer for free US shipping on orders over $45. (Not currently a possibility for international shipments.)

Do you have a website?

Yes I do! I would love for you to visit my standalone web shop www.SmileMercantile.com where I have an expanded selection of goods, craft tutorials, and a sign up form for my newsletter.
