About SnickerdoodleKnitsCo

Snickerdoodle Knits: Confidence. Creativity. Community.

Just six months after graduating with an engineering degree, I found myself with no job in a small college town with minimal job opportunities. I was also unenthusiastic about my career and desperate for a creative outlet. With a "now or never" mindset, I decided to turn my knitting into a business.

Snickerdoodle Knits started as an Etsy shop selling chunky hand knits, but it has turned into so much more.

Six months after opening my Etsy shop, I released my first knitting pattern. Although I'd always been drawn to creative work, I was certain I'd never be creative enough to have a job that required creativity. That is, until I started designing knitting patterns.

I soon discovered that knitting pattern design was the culmination of so many of my interests. The work is challenging, allows me to use math, artistic design, and emotional connection, all while telling stories, taking pictures, and creating communities.

Each pattern design incorporates a story of living, from emotions to places, through the stitches and textures. I invite you to explore the journey of life, and to uncover the stories of your own life, as you work through my patterns.

Frequently asked questions

Does Snickerdoodle Knits accept custom orders?

Yes, I do accept custom orders, primarily when it pertains to a request for a different size or color for an existing listing. However, sometimes a custom request cannot be fulfilled due to a variety of reasons, including the discontinuation of a yarn brand/color.

Please contact me through the "Request a Custom Order" button to explain the changes you would like to see for an existing listing (or an entirely different order). We can then discuss feasibility, cost, processing time, and shipping time for your order.

I look forward to working with you to create the perfect gift, whether it's for yourself or a special person in your life!

What are the washing instructions for Snickerdoodle Knits' hand knit accessories?

All washing instructions are displayed in the item description for each listing. However, I always recommend hand washing your hand knits, even if the yarn is rated as machine washable. Hand washing your accessories will extend their durability and lifetime.

How does Snickerdoodle Knits measure the dimensions for hats and ear warmers?

I always measure the exterior dimensions of my knitted accessories. This dimension is more accurate (although still approximate) than measuring the interior dimensions. This means that the "perfect" head size will be slightly smaller than the dimensions listed in the item description. However, all of my hats and ear warmers will stretch. The maximum stretched dimensions are also listed in the item description.

How does Snickerdoodle Knits select their yarns?

I prefer to purchase yarn that is soft, chunky, cozy, and affordable for many price points. However, in the future I would like to expand to offer knitted goods in hand-dyed yarns to help support local and independent hand dyers! If this is something you'd be interested in in the near future, send me a message!

Does Snickerdoodle Knits use their own patterns or patterns from other designers?

All products that used a designer's pattern include a link to the pattern information in the item description. Prior to using a designer's pattern for Snickerdoodle Knits, I always contact the designer (or find their relevant policies) to ensure that they approve of my use of their patterns. Otherwise, the pattern used was one that I created (and am constantly tweaking).
