About SnowLakeStudio
I create original, handmade art in Sammamish, WA
I am inspired by manifold arts and artists — indigenous, Japanese, environmental, and public. Through art I contemplate animals who faithfully enrich our human experience. I create original relief prints by hand of Pacific Northwest wildlife (and domestic cats), and I also draw.
Through my art I honor values of public engagement, social justice, and local economics. My experience includes public education at Sammamish Arts Fairs. A print hangs in a community planning office at Seattle City Hall and is permanent public art in a downtown Ellensburg, WA, bus shelter (Water Street in front of Fred Meyer). My art is on utility boxes in Kent and Tukwila, WA (respectively, through 2026 and 2026-2028), and Sweetgrass Arts of Seattle turned a drawing of salmon juveniles into waterway banners. Publicly accessible group exhibit venues include Whatcom Museum in Bellingham and White River Valley Museum in Auburn. I donated originals for benefits and reproduction cards for food bank clients, and I served as a companion at events where seniors (elders) and youth created art.
My prints have been at galleries in Washington State, including Millstream (a wildlife art gallery on Bainbridge Island) and Revolution Gallery (formerly in Issaquah's historic Gilman Village). I participated in group shows at senior communities in Issaquah and Seattle, WA, and online with Minnesota's Courage Kenny Rehabilitation Institute (www.CourageArt.org). At Harris Avenue Café in Bellingham, I held a solo show.
Classes at Penland School of Craft and University of British Columbia (Vancouver), and a B.A. with a studio art major from Saint Olaf College (with semesters at School of the Art Institute and University College London), are my educational foundation. My background also involves community planning and sustainability, and my Masters of Regional Planning is from University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. I have done doctoral coursework in planning and education at University of British Columbia, and I was an arts mentee through Artists Up and Mentorly.
