From Butterflies to Bags
I like butterflies, nature, gardens, and pets, as well as protecting Mother Earth. I love to paint & create visual art that reflects my folk, hippie, colorful, nature style. My creations take form as decorative slates, upcycled purses, & polymer clay beads.
My first purse was made from a design I had painted on a pair of jeans. The jeans had worn out, but I saved the design. Years later, I combined that applique piece with khaki fabric from an old pair of pants. The purse strap was inspired by my uncle's 35mm camera neck strap. Wherever I went, people would comment on my purse. This inspired me to make more designs that would eventually be put together into my Etsy shop.
The body of each purse is made from recycled denim and twill fabric from jeans and pants. Flowers & butterflies are painted from nature, often sketched on paper with pencil first. Each completed purse is ironed to heat-seal the acrylic paint. There may be small imperfections, but each purse is made with care and is a unique piece of art.
Where does the name Snowywinds come from? I was trying to come up with a clever email address to represent my music & art studios. 'Snowy' happens to be my hippie name given to me by my parents (& while I'm glad it's not my real name, it's a cute nickname - Snowy Winter.) 'Winds' represents the fact I am a professional woodwind player.

Care instructions
Yes, these fabric bags are washable. All hand-painting is heat sealed. Wash on gentle cycle cold and tumble dry low.
Do you have any pets?
Many of my items incorporate pet themes. I do have a dog. Fabrics are kept away from the dog. Fabrics and bags are stored in plastic bags in a plastic bin.
How sturdy are the straps?
The durability of straps may vary due to material. All are securely sewn to the inside of the bag. Though my bags have a 'rough edge' look, care is taken to ensure stitching is strong and secure.
My personal testimonial - I have used the same strap on 3 different bags over 10+ years. The strap has outlasted 2 bags.
