About

Brave Hands

I grew up the oldest of 6 in a family of artists. My parents Rick & Brenda Beerhorst have been making a living through art since the late 80's. In our home, art // craft // make was celebrated above all else.

When I was 13 my family moved to Brooklyn NY for a year and while we where there I started sewing sock dolls that I called "Sockmonsters". After I worked up enough courage, I brought them to a trendy Brooklyn toy shop and they bought everything I'd made outright. That was one of the proudest moments of my life and it cemented my love of both making & selling.

I've found my focus in fiber arts: sewing, crochet, knitting, weaving, etc. I use almost exclusively repurposed material, it is so exciting to turn something forgotten into something new & special, it's almost like spinning straw into gold!

I chose not to go to college and instead have taken my chances as an artist and crafter. I've done just that since moving out on my own on 10/1/11. When you support my shop (and Etsy in general) you are making that life a viable option for young artist like me.

When I'm not creating I'm most likely gardening, blogging, watching Freaks&Geeks, dancing, going to house shows, crying, baking, thriftting, longboarding, or washing dishes.
