They are lovely. Arrived in a timely manner. I had been looking for something relatively small and unique...they fit the bill.

About

Glass Artist

****How I started****

In 2005 I was fortunate enough to have studied the craft of glass bead making in Massachusetts and in 2006 in Hong Kong. Aside from these basic bead making courses, I consider myself "formally self taught" in techniques for sculpting soft glass off-mandrel. Since starting my craft I have had to move many times, but art is my passion, and I made sure to set up a working studio in each new location. I am currently living and working in my home town, the beautiful shire town, Hampton, NB.

****Statement****

I am fascinated by miniature works of art and I really enjoy designing and creating one of a kind pendants, earrings and sometimes small sculptures. I love the nature of glass and the challenge of mastering it in its molten state, it has a beautiful fluidity that can be influenced to create something as special and unique as the nature of the medium itself. I am inspired by flowers, sea creatures, outer space, and organic shapes and patterns.

****The Name****

I named the business after the material I work with which glass-makers have been using for over 3000 years, Soda-Lime Glass. Soda and Lime are two of the main constituents used to create this traditional type of glass.

****The Process****

Using the finest soda-lime glass rods my pieces are hand crafted one at a time and entirely freehand in a torch flame making each one totally unique. My focus is on creating pieces using the technique of implosion, which begins by heating and shaping the end of a clear glass rod into a disc. My design is melted onto the back of the clear glass disc with tiny hand pulled rods of colored glass, called stringers, then heated and blended. Every petal, dot, stripe, or anything else you see in my designs is melted on and shaped with meticulous care. Rotating the glass in the flame, I use heat and gravity to draw and push the design up into the clear glass creating a beautiful three dimensional piece.

Please note that each is hand made. My photos don't always show exactly how many colors appear. Plus computers and their programs vary in how my products appear.

I try to capture the true colors in the glass but the colors may appear slightly different in the photos. I have taken some photos in the sunlight by my window so you can see the actual colors.
