About

Quality Handmade Crochet items, made by me, in the USA, in a smoke free, pet free environment. Special Orders Always welcome.

Hi 👋🏽 I'm Lori, Welcome to my Shop. SoftCrochetByLoriAnn & This is "My Story"

I'm a wife, mom, grandmother, nurse, chef, maid, chauffeur, events planner, babysitter, seamstress, electrician, mechanic, general contractor, mason, landscaper, And I don't like to do plumbing or windows. And My own boss.

I always enjoy(ed) doing arts & crafts with my children. I've dabbled in sewing, macrame, beading, plastic canvas, needlepoint, embroidery, knitting looms, basic quilting, and the likes. My favorite always came down to Crochet. With all my children it became my de-stress, chill, me time tool. And being able to make clothing, toys, home goods & gifts, also made it an economically affordable hobby. I was always making something to give away, and that always gave me such happiness to share a part of my passion with my family & friends.

I started crocheting when I was about 12, my Aunt Patty taught me the basic stitches and I quickly caught on, and the addiction was well under way. I used to spend my paper route & babysitting money on yarn. I've always had a project or two or ten, started & in a bag stashed in a closet or behind a chair begging to be finished.

My working careers basically consisted of part time retail jobs... even though I graduated from a Technical high school where I learned Electro-Mechanical. I was a supervisor at a ChildWorld toy store, AMF bowling alley snack bar attendant, I was a Tupperware Manager and even got the manager car, lol, and my last job at a Stop&Shop Pharmacy as a pharmacy technician, which I really loved, I'm a people person.

I truly enjoy being able to be at home with my children, after all they are my life force. And that brings me to Etsy.

In 2015 I had developed some medical issues and the random pain and swelling of various joints and muscles make it hard to work, hard to function, but I could drive kids to school, and function around the house and take breaks. I reluctantly decided to leave my job. I spent so much time resting this ankle or that knee, or my neck and back. I pulled out some old crochet projects to keep my hands & mind busy... That Year I made 8 afghans a couple dozen scarves, slippers, mittens & hats.

During one of my flares, My husband asked me, while I was elbow deep in yarn, "Do you really enjoy crocheting?" My instant answer was "Yes, Why?" "Would you want your own business?" he asked. So now I think of all the possible 'Ralph Kramden ideas' he could be coming up with, lol. Then he told me about Etsy. Where I could not only make things for other people but make some money at it as well. The idea of selling my crochet never occurred to me, I've always gifted. I could share and sell my handmade crochet items, I was so excited. I could turn my love, my obsession, my addiction into a career, where I'm home enjoying my girls. I can go to work in the attic/office when they're in school and I always have a project by my favorite chair in the living room. I can have movie night with the kids and work at the same time, doing something I really love. I have my phone/office with me, where Etsy connects me to people who want to buy the very things I love making, it's a win win.

I love coming up with my own patterns, and the one I've used that is not my own, is credited accordingly. I love the challenge, (it's like a double dog dare) when someone asks me "Do you think you could make...?" My mind starts turning gears, and planning and color schemes, "Yes, I'm pretty sure I can" and then... I do.

The only stupid questions are ones unasked. Please contact me, I usually reply within minutes. Special Orders encouraged and always welcome, feel free to challenge me.

Frequently asked questions

Custom and personalized orders

Contact me, I can personalize just about anything Crochet, to a custom size, color or style.

If you don't see a crochet item you want here, ask me, no Special Order too small.

How long does it take for my special Order?

Times vary, my typical Afghan 46"x64" takes about 15 to 20 or more hours of straight crocheting to complete, depending on style. Typically a weeks time plus shipping time. Whereas a pair of slippers or a scarf can usually be finished and shipped next day. I will always give a reasonable completion time estimate with all special orders.

How do I come up my prices?

Time, supply cost & skill greatly varies. Looking at my favorite size 46"x64" Afghan, say granny square, made of standard worsted weight Yarn, is made from approximately 3lbs of various color yarn, and takes on average, 20 hours of crocheting to complete. A low end $120 charge after the cost of supplies is roughly about $4 or less per hour for moderately skilled labor. I try to stay competitive with other sellers, and sadly under compensate my time, as do many others. I always give a reasonable price, completion time, and realistic shipping fees with all orders.

How long have I been crocheting?

I've always loved crafting (plastic canvas, embroidery, cross stitch, sewing, macrame, to name a few) but crocheting is my all time favorite craft and I've been at it for about 35 years.
