Announcement   Sojourn Curiosities specializes in free form, wire wrapped, inspired jewelry. I like to think of my work as part art, part artifact.

To find my sea glass and pottery, I scour the rocky, periwinkle strewn beaches of my local communities, which are rich in shipbuilding heritage, dating back to the Golden Age of Sail.

My stones are from local coastline, and my shells from Maine, and family trips to Florida. All of my antique keys and vintage buttons are sourced from antique dealers and estate sales.

Each piece has a story to tell.

Such a beautiful ring. The antiqued copper wire wrapped around a lovely yellow rose is a perfect combination. As always, Sarah does amazing things. An additional ring as a gift for a friend was a nice surprise.

These earrings are very pretty. The combination of stones make them so interesting. They give off a cool and calm look. They are a nice weight and I wear them often.

This is an amazing necklace. A fossilized shell that has such detail and gorgeous colors. The rose gold wire sets it off perfectly. Sarah is so talented.

About

Dreamspun sculpted wire, vintage inspired jewelry…

I have always been a wandering gatherer, an observer, relishing the intangible aspects, the wonder of life on this Earth. In my teen years, I learned basic jewelry techniques, stringing and beadwork, and devoted my time to filling journals with my poetry. In my 20s, I longed to capture the many beautiful pieces of nature, and vintage finds that inspired me so, and wire was the natural form to do so. I began playing with wire in 2003, and haven't stopped.

Sojourn Curiosities specializes in sculpted wire, mixed-media jewelry. I think of my work as part art, part artifact~ inspired by nature, fantasy and the Victorian era. My collections range from simple, sweet designs to show-stopping, heirloom quality jewelry. My pieces are built around antique keys, sea glass and china, vintage buttons, and found natural materials, such as shells and stones.

I have been designing antique key jewelry with my signature wrapping style since 2006. In addition, I continue to evolve and find new takes on this collection, ranging from incorporating pieces of nature, to roses to conveying different themes.

Making Maine sea glass, china and pottery jewelry blends my passions for uncovering pieces of the past and presenting them in renewed light, adorned in a way that suits each artifact best.

Each piece of jewelry I create will take you on a journey, to another place or time. I hope to capture the intangible, inspire a sense of wonder with my work. Each piece has a story to tell.

Shipping
Items are shipped via priority mail, within the U.S., or air mail internationally, typically within 2-4 days from when the order is placed.

International orders are made with the buyer taking full responsibility for customs charges/levies/fees, etc. Please be aware of any charges you may encounter when receiving your items prior to ordering, and be prepared to take responsibility for them. My policy is to accurately represent item values when completing customs forms for international orders. Thank you for understanding.

Lastly, if you prefer an alternate shipping method, or additional features, please send a note prior to paying, so that we can make arrangements for that.

My pieces are ready for gifting, presented in a padded gift box, tied with ribbon or lace, and placed in a bubble mailer, or a small box, depending upon their size. These items are packaged well, to ensure utmost safety during travel, as well as a safe arrival.
Refunds and Exchanges
I want my customers to be pleased with the item they receive, and to be able to wear it for a long time to come. Items are packaged very securely, and, to this point, have arrived soundly in every instance. However, if your piece arrives damaged, please contact me to arrange for a return to repair/replace within 14 days of arrival.

My pieces are works of wearable art, which are best cared for by removing before gardening, doing dishes, etc. If your piece is damaged during casual, everyday wear, please contact me for a return, as I will gladly repair it.

Please read the item description, examine the photos, and most of all know your audience when purchasing my jewelry as a gift. I provide as much detail as possible so that what you get is what you expect, and better! While I wish I had the capacity of places like Wal Mart and Bed Bath & Beyond to take returns for any reason, I do not. Maybe someday!

Why not use sterling and 14K gold?
--------------------------------------------------

I have, can and love to! However, a little secret about my work, and part of what makes it so lush, is that each piece takes a minimum of 10 feet of wire to create.

The current prices of silver and gold would require me to charge 2 to 3 times my current average price per piece of jewelry. If you are interested in having me create a piece with fine metals, please contact me about a custom design!

As a sidenote, artistic wire works up beautifully, holds up to wear extremely well, and also resists tarnish and skin reactions, due to a clear enamel coating.

Custom Orders:
-----------------------------------

If you see something you like, but it is not your size, or not your metal, please contact me.
Often, my more basic designs can be revisited in different sizes, colors, or materials.

When working on custom orders, I present a quote, and, when the customer is ready to move forward with the project, I create a listing for the project at the quoted price. I then order any materials needed to complete the project. I keep the customer posted throughout the process. When the item is completed, I share photos of your new piece(s), via message, and then ship the item.

Many customers have a general idea what they want, and urge my artistic interpretation for their creation. If you have a very specific vision, it would help me to have a diagram. That way there is no gray area and the item you receive is as close as possible to your vision. It will not be possible for me to replace or recreate a custom order for you due to details you did not specifically voice not matching your expectation.

Ribbons and Chains for Your Pendant:

All pendants are presented on a chain or ribbon necklace. Unless noted, chains may be altered, and ribbons may be exchanged for chains, other color ribbons, etc.

Unsure of your ring size?

Here's a link that offers three ways to find out, and seems to mesh well with my sizing tools:

Care and Maintenance:
--------------------------------

Most metals, excluding argentium silver and artistic wires, which are sealed with a protective coat to prevent tarnish, will oxidize, or become darker over time, when left in the open air.

I typically work in artistic wire, which is resistant to tarnish and skin reactions.

Occasionally, I work in brass, which can tarnish. Here are some tips for prevention and care of oxidation:

*All pieces will do best stored in a closed, dry place. Resealable plastic bags work well.

*If your piece oxidizes, you may enjoy the "antiqued" look, or you may want to restore it to a gleaming shine. To restore a design including store-bought beads, or dichroic glass and wire, I use a solution of lemon or lime juice (I add baking soda to this, sometimes), and gently rub wire, and then wash with dish soap and rinse thoroughly.

*Pieces with textiles, repurposed objects, delicate beads (lapis, malachite, pearl), or natural found objects are best spot wire cleaned using a similar solution and a cotton swab.

*Lastly, if you are unsure on how to care for your specific piece, please do not hesitate to contact me for more specific instructions.
