About

Inspired by Northern history and nature

My name is Tiina and I live in Southern Finland. I am self-taught jewelry maker and designer, but I've also attended a few silver jewelry classes to learn more. Lately, I've also learned to make ceramic jewelry components. Originally I am an archaeologist and have a passion for past and ancient things. I've also always loved to draw and paint, to create. When I started making jewelry in 2010 I just combined these two interests.

I design and make symbol jewelry out of organic and natural materials like metals, glass, gemstones, wood, bone, leather, organic fabrics etc. I like to include a symbol in every piece of jewelry I make to give them a meaning and soul. I make these symbol charms or other components myself usually out of copper by etching or of copper clay. I try to make these components to look like rustic and worn, like they were ancient.

I get my inspiration mainly from Finnish and Northern European history, prehistory and mythology, but also from music and nature.

Finnish nature is wild and often a bit gloomy, with its great forests and dark lakes. Most of the year it is not very colorful. In summer it is very different from that, but I get my inspiration usually from that gloomy and cold time of the year, and that you can see in my jewelry.

The figures and inscriptions I use in my jewelry are shamanistic figures from the Finnish Stone Age rock paintings and runic inscriptions from real European archaeological finds. The symbols are runes and other common ancient symbols like spirals and solarcrosses / wheels.

When I am not making jewelry, I am learning new things, spending time with my family of three school-age daughters, a husband and two cats.
