About
Textiles in Color
This shop was born out of a love for creating. I have been an artist for as long as I can remember, learning the tools of tie dye from my genuine hippie mama. As I grew older, I invested time into a variety of different art forms, including jewelry, sewing, painting, crocheting, weaving, and tie dyeing. Recently I have found that the textile arts really speak to me and allow me to create in a way that is truly authentic to myself. I love to create art with colors and textures that only the textile arts can provide.
As a citizen of this world, I do everything within my power to reduce my environmental impact and carbon footprint. For this reason my business is very nearly 100% sustainable. My yarns are purchased secondhand, from small artisan makers, or are organically or sustainably produced. Oftentimes my yarns had a previous life as something else- a sweater, a silk sari, perhaps even a favorite t-shirt. I take these textiles and transform them, giving them a new life as a piece of woven art.
In a similar way, many of my tie dye pieces are garments that were purchased secondhand. These pieces are totally unique and there will be no two ever exactly alike. Other garments and homewares are made from recycled, sustainable, or organic fabrics. I believe there is no reason to create, wear, or buy something that has created a negative impact on the world.
Sol Spirit is looking towards the future with expanded product lines like hand-sewn garments, eco-printed tees, woven pillows, and much more. Thank you for joining me on this journey to a colorful and more sustainable future.
