Always Look On the Bright Side of Life

Welcome everyone to Sonoma Jewelry Art, formerly The Beading Hearts Designs!

My husband Michael Byrne and I, Rochelle (aka Shelley), make jewelry. Approximately 20 years ago, I started making beaded jewelry with my sister, Beverlee. We started because our sister-in-law was beading as therapy while dealing with cancer. She showed us her designs at Thanksgiving dinner. The next day my young daughter begged me to buy beads and the rest is history.

I started learning techniques from the local beaders at various bead stores. For years, Beverlee and I did many craft shows under the name The Beading Hearts Designs and our jewelry was in numerous boutiques.

In the meantime, Michael retired early from being a sheet metal journeyman. He started taking jewelry classes at the local colleges, including a class on crocheting metal wire from the daughter of renowned artist, Ruth Asawa. Asawa’s work is seen in a number of museums including the DeYoung museum in San Francisco. Michael uses that skill today in making crocheted jewelry.

My sister decided to concentrate full time on her dogs. She breeds small Shih Tzus and long haired Dachshunds. From that point on, Michael and I did all the juried art & wine shows together.

As with everyone, the pandemic put a big damper on things. For us it was the craft shows. This did not stop us from making jewelry however. Michael was constantly singing, ”Always Look On The Bright Side Of Life”. Making jewelry during this time helped keep us sane!

We are fortunate to live in the beautiful wine country, Sonoma County,Ca, with our long haired dachshund named Rascal and our dach tzu named Charlie Girl. Every day we see a Normal Rockwell print hanging in our kitchen which reads, “Do Unto Others As You Would Have Them Do Unto You”. This inspires us, both for his art and the golden rule motto.

Sitting with our lap dogs, watching our favorite sports teams on tv, and making jewelry is basically our lifestyle now. We love creating new things daily.

Etsy is the perfect outlet for us to showcase our individually handcrafted jewelry. We hope you continue to follow us as we are always adding newly created pieces.

Thank you so much for stopping by and taking the time to read our story.

Hello! I am a retired sheet metal worker who now makes jewelry art.I learned a lot of my techniques from taking jewelry classes at the local colleges. A jewelry class given by the daughter of renowned artist Ruth Asawa taught me how to crochet wire.
