For as long as I can remember, art has always been a passion of mine.
For as long as I can remember, art has been a passion of mine, starting with when I could pick up a pencil. As a young child, I can remember watching a movie about Beethoven and how he went crazy when he couldn't play the piano. I remember thinking that that was how I felt about art. My greatest passion is sculpture, especially 1/12th scale miniatures. My childhood medium was paper, mainly old homework papers, because that's what I had to work with. Drawings quickly led to paper dolls, then to 3-D accessories made from paper, then to 3-D dolls made of paper. My grandmother and aunt taught me how to sew, which led to making clothes for my dolls. My dad introduced me to modeling clay, which I used to make accessories for my dollshouse. When I was 14, my dad gave me a pack of Sculpey, which began to transform my miniature work.
As a young adult, fueled mainly by my passion for art and for Disney, I went to work at Disneyland, which only inspired me further. I also learned that I could start my own business. And so, in 1994, Souly Autographed was born. Doing mainly hand painted glassware (which was not really being done at the time) and hand painted infant t's, I attended craft shows and had my items in a crafters mall in Buena Park, CA.
My business, however, was struggling and my then fiancée, now husband, taught me a bit about marketing and convinced me to get my items in gift shops down in San Diego, where he had just moved. Things were getting better, but health problems soon after we married, attending collage, and then having two children brought business to a halt.
My passion never died, but craft shows and keeping up with gift shops was quite a challenge, so I started listing items on ebay as I could make them. That wasn't panning out well, either. In 2011, my neighbor introduced me to etsy. And, although the first year was difficult, my etsy teammates encouraged me to hang in there, and the business has been growing ever since!
Owner, Creator, Designer
For as long as I can remember, creating has been a passion of mine. I balance my art with being a mother of two beautiful children and being a wife.
