SCQ is now a member of a group of quilters donating one quilt each month to someone in need. In October, this quilt will be sent to TX for someone affected by the hurricane. May it bring comfort. purple_heartpineapple

The process of making a quilt is long and sometimes grueling. It's old fashioned because my grandmother and great grandmother used to make them, but it's modern too. I have tools and shortcuts that they didn't have and a vast amount of fabrics that they would never had access to.

My love of quilts runs deep. It's not one thing about them, it's all the things.

It's putting colors together and the feeling of knowing when it feels right. It's finding a fabric that makes you squeal. It's seeing a design in your head and figuring out how to make it come to life. It's the constant repetivenss of cutting, stitching, pressing and then stitching again.

And then you have this finished treasure, this practical and PURPOSE FILLED quilt that will brighten up any space you place it in and bring warmth to any who lie under it. A quilt has so very many uses. What else besides a quilt can keep you warm, bring comfort to a friend, have a picnic on, wrap a baby in, decorate a home with, display as art, wash and dry, and then one day hand down to your family for them to do the same with?

I love quilts. I love to buy them. I love to make them. I love to bury myself up under them. Making them gives me purpose. It's MY age old trade.

All of my quilts are made to be used. Please don't store them unloved in a closet. Love them and then wash and dry them. They get cozier and softer everytime you do.

Every quilt of mine is made by my own two hands, one at a time. I work on a Bernina 550 quilters edition machine and a Juki 2000qi. I use almost exclusively cotton fabrics, cotton thread and cotton batting.

I live in north Alabama with my husband and two children. I have a home studio dedicated to my love of making quilts. In my spare time I like to crochet, read and travel.

Southern Charm Quilts is my family's bread and butter, so thank you so very much for supporting me and my little shop. Every single purchase helps keep a roof over our heads and food in our mouths. You are not giving more of your money to big business when you have me make a quilt for you. You are contributing to our home, health and happiness. You are giving me the chance to make a living doing something that I love and am very passionate about. I do a little happy dance with every quilt you buy. Thank you!

My name is Melanie and I am from Alabama. All my items are created in my clean, smoke free home studio by me. I take great care to attention and detail. Everything is made on a small scale. I do not hire anyone to help me...therefore you are getting a real custom handmade item from the deep, deep south.

You can reach me within Etsy here
or email me at mel.tray [!at]

Returns and exchange details
I do NOT accept refunds on made to order or custom orders. Not knowing that you purchased a made to order item will not be an excuse as this info is located in each and every description. Please note that etsy puts '1 available' in each of the listings. This does not constitute a ready to ship item. Read my description to know for sure what you are buying.

If you are unhappy with an item that you purchased from me that is not a custom or made to order, please contact me within 10 days of receipt of item for a refund or exchange. Item will need to be returned immediately (within 10 days), I do not refund shipping costs going to or from, but I will refund the purchase price or exchange the item as soon as I have the item returned and in its original state.

All sizes are approximate and can sometimes be off a little. This is due to the 100% cotton and sometimes the quilting. I cannot guarantee exact measurements. If the measurements of your quilt are off more than 5 inches on at least one side (not combined sides) from size stated in description I will be happy to correct this error.

When you place an order that items can be customized, please give me details for those orders, such as fabric choices or placement, quilt backs or any other decisions that can be made. If you fail to give me details, I WILL take creative freedom with your order. I will NOT track you down for decisions or email you to ask you questions. I will assume that you do not have a preference and use my own judgement. You will NOT be able to return this item or refund just because you don't like the decision I made.

and never gave me details or other necessities for me to be able to complete your order you will only be able to get a refund for up to 60 days from purchase date. After that you can only be given store credit. PLEASE NOTE that these are orders where I did not receive what I needed from you to complete your order and not any other type of order.

IF YOU HAVE PURCHASED A GUEST BOOK QUILT and never returned your quilt squares for me to complete your quilt I will give you up to three years to do so. After three years, I will not complete the order nor refund and will consider the order completed.
I use PayPal or Etsy direct checkout for all transactions.

Alabama residents will be charged sales tax. So sorry, neighbors, I hate this too.
Within the US, I ship all my items with the United States Postal Service, mostly using First Class, Parcel Post, and Priority Mail, depending on size, weight and price. NO other shipping methods will be used. If you have preference about shipping methods or would like to have insurance added, please let me know that you would like that and are willing to pay for it.

For international shipments, I ship items with United States Postal Service with Priority Mail only. It is your responsibility to know of any duties or taxes on imported goods. They will be at your own expense.

Once your item has shipped you will receive an email from Etsy with your delivery confirmation number/tracking number.

We are not responsible for replacing or refunding if a package is not located at the delivered location after delivery was confirmed by USPS. If USPS says they delivered your package, they delivered your package.

If your shipment has been lost 30 days in US, 60 days for international, you will be given store credit. Tracking will need to show 'undelivered'.

I recycle my shipping supplies as much as possible and occasionally you will get a package in a box that has been used before.
Additional policies and FAQs
I use only the best. Almost all my quilts, with the exception of minky, are 100% cotton. There is designer fabrics on top, a layer of all natural 'Warm & Natural' batting in the middle, and finally a layer of designer cotton or muslin on the back.

I happily allow payment plans.
How it works:
*You must contact me for setup.
*I will set you up a 'partial payment' allowed invoice on Paypal. You will pay it as you like. I will send a reminder on the first of every month, but it's just a reminder. You may pay how much you like when you like.
*Paypal accepts all major credit or debit cards.
*Your initial payment must be enough to cover any fabric costs I may incur (this is just so I can guarantee you particular fabrics for your order).
*Though you are making payments on your order, I do not work on orders that are not paid in full. You can place your initial order and be placed on my schedule and pay your order before your scheduled date arrives. However, if your order is not paid by that date your order will be moved out 30 days. This will repeat until your order is paid in full.
*Just because you completed payments does not mean I will begin work on your order immediately. There is an order schedule that can be found on my website. I complete orders in a first come first served manner with the exception of special requests.
*There are no refunds on payment plans, but you can use your funds paid as a store credit.
*Once I have purchased fabrics for you, they can only be changed at your expense.

Items are made to order unless otherwise stated in the listing. My production time varies from time to time, but I always keep it listed in my shop announcement on the homepage of my shop. You may have to click the 'read more' tab to view it. If you have purchased a MADE TO ORDER item and wish to know when you will receive it you can view my TO DO LIST here

I frequently take custom orders, so dont be hesitant to contact me with yours.

All quilts are machine washable. All items are machine washable with the exception of crib bumpers. Crib bumpers need to be spot cleaned only. If you must wash them, you will have to iron to get flat again.

If you purchase a wedding or memory quilt from me and never send me the supplies to create the purchase you made your order will be moved to the end of the schedule until you do send the supplies. If after THREE years you still have not sent clothing for memory quilts or never returned your quilt squares for guest book quilts for me to complete your quilt I will not complete the order nor refund and will consider the order completed.
