murmers of a sleeping muse

Sparrow Salvage has been a long journey, the path of which for me always comes back to jewelry.

The short version - I was an exhibition artist who needed to make an income with my creativity, so I translated my artwork into wearable pieces and the shop was born! That was in 2007 and I did well, becoming quite a success in my own right. Then in 2011 I was involved in a near-fatal car accident and in the following years, my creativity vanished.

Now it is 2019 and I am once again stretching my muscles, playing with beads, chain and found objects, experimenting with the still very sleepy muse in my head.

My aesthetic used to be quite dark and grungy; now it is a combination of feminine and earthy with a hint of magic. Keys, hearts and star shapes combine with soft colours and rustic textures, all cryptically linked together to create stories both pertinent to me and I hope relatable for you.

Ethics also play a large part in my purpose; as someone who considers themselves a conscious consumer, I’ve made a commitment that my jewelry is made from salvaged and reclaimed materials as much as possible. My hunting grounds are junk shops, thrift stores, my father's shed, flea markets and anywhere else I find it.

I have a new blog and Instagram coming soon; in the meantime check out my Pinterest for a bit of an idea about what kind of things inspire me.

Frequently asked questions
Returns + Refunds

Returns are taken only for significantly not as described or damaged goods. Refunds are given if items are lost in the post- I do consider it my responsibility to get your items to you, even if I have to rely on the postal system to do it :)

I send items of a certain value with tracking to minimise this risk, but I've been selling online for 10 years and so far very few orders have gone astray.

When items are returned to me due to errors on your part such as wrong address, refusal of pick-up etc I will either ask for additional shipping fees to re-send it or refund your item minus the cost of shipping, whichever you prefer.

Items returned to me without previously arranging with me to do so are not protected by Etsy's policies.

Refunds on damaged items

Any items which arrive damaged will be refunded either in part or whole depending on the damage. I prefer to make you a replacement piece if I can, or work with you to make something else of the same value. But if you prefer a refund, we can do that too!

When claiming refund from damage, it is important you contact me through Etsy's conversation system with photographic proof of the damage (including the packaging if necessary) in order for the refund process to engage.

Payment agencies require you send the damaged goods back to me before I refund; personally I only require this if the materials are salvageable for me to re-use.

About my materials

90% my inventory is made from real vintage and reclaimed objects; please expect tiny flaws as some of the objects have usually lived a full life. Beads may have tiny chips, buttons are worn, lace has rust marks etc. This is the imperfect beauty of vintage, it's not for the lover of the perfect!

While I do consider these flaws to be part of the vintage charm I try to only use materials in the best possible condition. Do be reassured though that all my earring wires are brand new and unused.
