Announcement I'm having a studio clean out in preparation for new projects and a house move, so there are prints for offer right now - most at a limited edition of 1! They're cheap too as they've come out of my portfolio, what you might call 'ex-display'. :)

Due to the Etsy slowdown, I thought it would be advantageous if I had a shop critique by a professional; something I've been wanting for a very long time. Not only did I get a critique, but some crucial tips that I can use with my listings. SparrowSalvage is conversive, clear, and open to suggestion; many times I felt like I was sitting across the table and having a conversation over a cup of tea. The support and feedback was more than valuable; it was priceless. After I applied just a few principles, I saw my views and sales greatly improve. This was truly money well spent!

Both pairs of earrings rock my little cotton socks off, but I never expected anything less from Penny. Thanks so much for always being so awesome to talk to, so accommodating, and always having the very best taste! <3

Love my new necklace! I will definitely buy something again in the future from Penny!
Narrative jewelry - the soul's journey home
Sparrow Salvage has been a long journey, the path of which always comes back to jewelry. I’ve been making ‘Victorian tribal’ assemblage jewelry for 8 years now; originally an exhibition artist, I needed to make an income with my creativity so I simply took the ideas, aesthetic and materials from my artwork and transferred it to jewelry. Sparrow Salvage was born.
As an artist’s work tends to do, my jewelry manifests as more than simple adornment. I believe it should represent the soul who wears it and provide a deeper meaning, serving to enhance your spirit as well as your outfit. The right piece can make you feel powerful, graceful, sexy, innocent or serene; whether it stems from the healing power of crystals, the affirmation of words or deeply personal symbolisms in shapes and colours; it all comes together as a kind of personal magic.
Ethics also play a large part in my purpose; as someone who considers themselves a conscious consumer, I’ve made a commitment that my jewelry is made from salvaged and reclaimed materials as much as possible. Believing that ‘salvage is the best kind of sustainable’, taking material which has been cast aside and re-working it to be new and appreciated again does a service for the responsible use of earth's dwindling resources.
My hunting grounds are junk shops, thrift stores, my father's shed, friend's cleanouts and even the occasional salvage yard. I also find the idea of gathering materials around me links nicely back to my artist's ideas of identity, that we construct our own world by selecting from the reality around us, accepting and rejecting as we go. This is exactly how I build my work - I gather materials like ideas, building the piece without any defined ideas; the finished piece is ‘designed’ simply by careful arrangement of the elements I feel are ‘right’.
My aesthetic is uniquely my own, a combination of feminine and earthy that I call 'English Bohemian'. Imagine an English country maid goes to Woodstock and you're halfway there. I've always found it difficult to find things to wear that express my own personal style; making my own jewelry was an answer to that, and this year I'm making my own clothes too. To sell? Well, that depends on how cooperative the sewing machine is!

Owner, Creator, One Woman Show
Life-long artist, night owl, making jewelry and re-building myself as I go. I live in the Australian countryside (for now!) and drink far too much tea.
Committed to a genuine Eco-friendly standpoint, my jewelry is made almost entirely with salvage materials, following the mantra ‘salvage is the best kind of sustainable’. I believe salvaged and reclaimed materials can still be of a high quality, and I focus only on natural and durable materials - stone, glass, metal, bone, shell, ceramic and wood.
