Announcement   ANNOUNCING THE NEW "FIRE & GOLD" COLLECTION: Gourd Lamps & Bowls.
Gourd Lamps (Fire) contain a glass cylinder with wick for use with paraffin wax oil. This special gift will last for a very long time!
Gourd Bowls (Gold) are lined with variegated gold leaf, adding complexity, color and beauty to these exquisite pieces.

I love working with gourds in a variety of ways -- carving relief or filagree patterns, embellishing them with feathers or cabochons or pine needles... I try to incorporate a little something new to each type of gourd I decorate.

I hope you enjoy what you see. If you have any questions, or any requests, please get in touch with me before purchasing! All photos and descriptions were carefully chosen to accurately represent each item.

If you receive an order and it's still not quite what you expected, please get in touch with me within 7 days of receiving your order and I will work with you to come to an agreeable solution. Return postage will be at the buyer's cost.

If your item was damaged in transit, please get in touch with me upon receipt of the package. Photos are helpful. Great care is taken to pack your order to prevent damage, but things do happen that are out of our control!

This is the initial phase of doing a stone inlay. The trench is carved into the gourd with beveled edges to give the goopy stone mixture a way to spread and settle as it cures for 24 hours. After it hardens, the sanding begins.

About

How I went out of my gourd!

I started carving and decorating gourds in 2005 after picking up a book on gourd carving in the local library. I haven't stopped since!

Being trained and having a business in massage therapy for over 20 years, I am drawn to all things tactile, and believe it or not, carving gourds has a lot to do with massaging people! Both require a keen eye and sense of what's happening almost on the molecular level, just under the surface. And both practices are not only largely intuitive, but acts of love.

With each new gourd that I design, I try to use a new technique, which might range from using a certain type of material in an inlay (such as brass shavings), to blending inks and paints to create a certain effect. Recently I wanted to incorporate more weaving into my gourds, so I learned how to create a dream catcher.

On the recommendation and actually urging of a good friend of mine, I got my gourds out of my basement, finished many of them, dusted them off, set prices, and put them out into the world. It's a very gratifying process, and one I'm learning step by step.

I hope you enjoy these creations as much as I have enjoyed crafting them. Please let me know how you like them!
