About

A few years ago, my wife rediscovered knitting. She found her renewed interest leading her into other aspects of the hobby, including dyeing and spinning. Inspired by her creativity and ingenuity, I decided to get back into the creative process. I had previously taught Art and ran my own art studio for a while, but found myself in a unrewarding desk job in the insurance industry. Craving an artistic outlet, we ordered some supplies and started practicing dying until we were comfortable offering our products to the creative community. I'm hoping that this endeavor will take off so that I'll be able to dye full time, leaving the insurance world behind.

The name Spoiled Greyhounds of the North comes from our love of the breed. It all started years ago with a lovable mutt named Roxy, a doberman/greyhound mix. She was so wonderful that we researched the breeds and determined that the greyhound traits were right for us. We reached out to the local greyhound rescue, went to an event, and came home with two wonderful boys. We soon realized that it would be greyhounds from then on. And yes, we do spoil them. Of the North, comes from our geographic location, upstate NY. Winters are so cold here, greyhounds need to be bundled up when they go out; leading to the greyhound in the company logo wearing a hat and scarf.

* 9-6-18 update: I went back to work full time in January with a wonderful company, very thankful for the steady paycheck and excellent co-workers. Still enjoying the events, love meeting our customers in person, talking about greyhounds and yarn. And to answer an often-asked question, no we don't make the yarn from greyhound hair (it's so short!). Also, Charity does spin, but the yarn we sell comes from a wholesaler. She's working on her consistency and we may offer her yarn sometime in the future.

Extremely beautiful and talented, Charity makes all of the stitch markers and progress keepers, as well as the project bags. She can spin, dye, knit, crochet, sew, sculpt and so much more! Maybe we can get her to add a picture soon...
