Print and Destroy

Brian and Lynnea first met when Lynnea's band Teflon Resistance needed a new drummer, and the two have been co-creating ever since. Squid Ink Kollective was born out of a desire for a business that brought artists together to thrive without sacrificing creative goals. Fortunately, Lynnea and Brian share the same love of cats, India, and low brow jabs at fine art. Humor is important always, but especially so when talking about consciousness and interconnectedness.

Our typical day consists of Lynnea working on emails, shipping and designing/sewing new products. Brian designs all of our printed matter, usually with a combination of ink drawing and computer editing. The entire process of creating the images, burning the screens, and printing by hand all of our shirts, tea towels, fabric, and posters is done by us. We also endeavor to do what we can in terms of sustainability - keeping our paper/electricity usage to a minimum, recycling, and buying as much USA-made materials as possible.

We're happy to say that time does make a difference. We have learned so much just by sticking with it, year after year. It wouldn't have happened without the loud support of our family, friends and customers. We'd like to thank each and every one of you for not only supporting us, but telling us with words what our work does for your day - because that's what really matters in the end.

Shop members

  • Brian Maclaskey

    Owner, Maker, Master Printer

Brian grew up on a steady diet of R. Crumb, homemade explosives and scuba diving. Having had a taste of printmaking in high school, he continued on with (almost getting) a degree from UNT's print program.

  • Lynnea Edwards

    Owner, Maker, Seamstress

Many of Lynnea's grand and great-grandparents were makers, and not by choice; there's something poetic about continuing their lines of work without the same adversities. She also hopes that every piece she makes reaches the heart of every buyer.

Additional policies and FAQs
Wholesale orders are welcome.

Q: What's in the inks?

A: We strive to use water-based inks where possible. Water-based inks dye the fabric, and soften with the first wash. They are not the cheap type that cracks and flakes off, and feels yucky when the sun is shining. They will last as long as the apparel itself does, provided you wash in cool water and tumble low.

Some of our designs are printed with an eco-friendly discharge ink, mainly the bright colors on dark fabrics. Eco-friendly = formaldehyde free! I know, right? That should be a given. There's a lot of chemicals involved in commercial screen printing and we try to avoid as many as we can, not only for the environment and for your health, but for our health as full-time screen printers as well.

Q: What shirts do you use?

A: Right now nearly all of our designs are on American Apparel. We know, we know, the owner is a douche. But supporting domestic manufacturers is very important to us, and we take who we can get. No one offers the range of colors and feel of the fabric that AA does, so we'll stick with them for now.
