Item was delivered to my door the same day I purchased it. Arrived in sealed plastic with cardboard for support so it did not get bent. Item looks great and is exactly the size specified, so I didn't have any issues finding a frame. Thank you!

About

I'm Always Dreaming

I started this little shop to help grow my illustrations business, Daydream Illustrations. We are a two person team, my husband Matthew and I. We travel to music festivals, comic conventions, and art shows all around the Midwest(It's a blast).

My illustrations delve into many different themes. A large part is women-centric with a fantastical quality. I place the women in my art in various themes in which they are not normally presented. I illustrate women as heroes, warriors, and goddesses of their own stories. My art conveys equality and strength; showing women in diverse cultural and racial elements with a feminist pop culture edge.

Animals also have a large influence on my art. I examine the deep bond humans have with animals though companionship, nourishment, and survival. By humanizing different animals, the viewer can see their own humanity though the animals. Chimeras, mythology, and monsters are my last major theme. Since I was a child I always had a deep fear of the dark and the creatures that reside there. My works often have monster pitted against hero. I immerse the viewer in playful color schemes seen through a child's gaze. I try to challenge the the viewer to not only look from the hero's eyes, but from the monster's perspective as well. In doing this I hope to create a dialogue about people and animals not always being the monsters they appear to be.

I use a variety of tools and mediums to complete my illustrations. You could say most of my pieces are mixed media because I use a mix of brush tip pens, markers, and other mediums to complete much of my work. I use mainly 2D media for my works. I use pencil and brush tip pens to create the forms and details. For color I use gouache, ink washes, and professional archival quality illustration markers to complete color and shading for the final look and texture.

I look to the world around me and place a lens on it to turn it into a different world. My art is also somewhat spontaneous. I enjoy going to different places around Dubuque, Iowa and the Midwest to find subjects and inspiration. Whether its going to the National Mississippi River Museum to find sea monsters or the rocky bluffs of the Mines of Spain to find dragons, you can find inspiration for just about anything in and around nature.

I live In Dubuque, Iowa where I create fantastical illustrations, rock climb, garden, hike and play with my two lazy cats. I picked up a pencil when I was three years old and haven't put one down since.
