Los sombreros SQULL comenzaron a finales del verano de 2020. Al comienzo de la pandemia de coronavirus en marzo de 2020 surgió una escasez gigante de máscaras / cubiertas faciales. Tanto es así que incluso los trabajadores esenciales en hospitales y entornos de atención médica carecían de EPP adecuado. Las máscaras y las cubiertas faciales simplemente no estaban disponibles.
En ese momento, mi madre había comenzado a coser y donar cubiertas faciales hechas a mano para donar a esos trabajadores esenciales. Los materiales, aparte del elástico, fueron donados. Y donó las máscaras que creó. Pensé que este era un acto de bondad genuinamente positivo y me ofrecí a ayudar.
Un problema. No podía coser... todavía. Mi mamá me comenzó simplemente en su máquina de coser, cosiendo líneas rectas, aprendiendo a subir y bajar el pie de prensa, trabajando el pedal. Y finalmente me acostumbré a coser. No solo la estaba ayudando a ser increíble, sino que estaba aprendiendo una nueva habilidad y estábamos pasando tiempo juntos. ¡Fresco!
Avance rápido. Las máscaras están disponibles, la necesidad de hacerlas y donarlas disminuye y hay una pila de tela de desecho donada en su casa. ¿Qué hacer?
Bueno, como cualquier jugador de paintball aficionado o profesional sabe, las diademas y las envolturas para la cabeza son un elemento básico definitorio de la cultura competitiva del paintball. Y aquí es donde la idea surgió por primera vez en la mente. No tenía el nombre de la empresa o un logotipo creado. SQULL (cráneo pronunciado) ni siquiera era un pensamiento todavía. Pero a finales del verano de 2020 se creó y se usó la primera diadema de los sombreros SQULL.

SQULL headwear started at the end of Summer 2020. At the beginning of the coronavirus pandemic in March 2020 there arose a giant mask/ face covering shortage. So much so that even the essential workers in hospitals and healthcare settings were lacking proper PPE. Masks and face coverings were simply unavailable.
At the time my mom had began sewing and donating handmade face coverings to donate to those essential workers. The materials, aside from elastic, were all donated. And she donated the masks she created. I thought this was a genuinely positive act of kindness and I offered to help.
One problem. I couldn't sew... yet. My mom started me off simple on her sewing machine, sewing straight lines, learning how to raise and lower the presser foot, working the foot pedal. And eventually I got the hang of sewing. Not only was I helping her be awesome but I was learning a new skill and we were spending time together. Cool!
Fast forward. Masks become available, the need to make and donate them dwindles and there is a pile of donated scrap fabric sitting in her house. What to do?
Well as any amateur or professional paintball player is aware of, headbands and headwraps are a defining staple of the competitive paintball culture. And this is where the idea first sprang into mind. I didn't have the name of the company or a logo created. SQULL (pronounced skull) wasn't even a thought yet. But at the end of the Summer of 2020 the first headband out of SQULL headwear was created and worn.
