About

Inspiration for my Art

Inspiration for my Art
I didn't consider myself an artist for a long time. My husband and I lived in Italy just after getting married. For three amazing years I was in awe over the colors of the Mediterranean Sea which I could see from our Italian villa's rooftop. Our landlord grew a huge garden and made homemade vino. I started painting on the old glass bottles that the wine was stored in. Inspired by the landscapes and growing plants I painted on flower pots and small canvases and gave them as gifts. The volcanic soil in Naples (Napoli) allowed my (non)green thumb to grow huge massive sunflowers. Amazed at the yellow flowers I began painting more vibrant flowers.
I can still remember walking in Florence, Italy wanting to buy every street artist's artwork. Walking those cobblestone alley's and bridges was like a feast for my senses. Breathtaking art in all forms surrounded us. Architectural elements in the churches and especially the Florence Cathedral were incredible. The “David” by Michelangelo was something you have to see in person.
Through these many years I've soaked up every experience into my mind and express myself onto canvas. I am not afraid of a blank canvas as my artist’s mind is always brewing up a new idea. I’ve basically taught myself to paint by studying the old masters of art and the many art books I have stacked throughout my home. I'm blessed that I can look at an old master's painting such as Claude Monet and reproduce his work with my own personal artistic touch. After all these years my home became my gallery. Guests entering my home are greeted with a formal dining room AKA my small art studio. I realized I should offer my paintings for sale after many visitors inquired about my artwork. I love those moments when my use of color in a painting evokes a positive emotion and I hear the viewer catch their breath. Thanks for visiting!
