Atelier "Studio/Workshop"

I am enjoying collecting antique and vintage textiles, laces, and notions. I have large burlap tote bags organized with colors of lace and ribbons, tubs of velvet and tapestries, and bits of small vintage fabric scraps. There is a small room where I have racks of more modern clothing, or plain vintage and antique slips and petticoats. I bought an old washing machine to experiment with fabric dying. My mom and I have acquired quite a few sewing machines. Our latest acquisition being a Singer treadle sewing machine that works like a dream. There is a large table in the center of the room where I can lay out projects and "marry" the old with the new. The result being pieces that have a romantic, tattered feel, but a new life in a more modern world. I have my finished projects there too so they are ready to ship when they sell or people can come in and try them on if desired. We are planning to have Friday night "get togethers" with other crafty friends to gather around the table and do needle felting, flower pins, and other fun creations. I think it is important to have a space where you can feel inspired and have your supplies at hand. My biggest dilemma is deciding what to do next.

I fell in love with vintage clothing and antiques while living in Iowa. I had a shop for awhile in a small town where it was like going back in time. Horse drawn carriages were just as common as cars in this heavily Amish settled community.
