About

Hello! Welcome to Steele Hollow Vintage! I’m Shelley…

Steele Hollow Vintage is the latest evolution of my 20-year career dealing in vintage clothing. I could probably start back even a few years earlier to when I was bitten by the vintage bug in high school. I eventually decided to turn my passion into a job when I opened my brick-and-mortar vintage shop called The Rag and Bone in 1995 in State College, Pennsylvania. Being in a college town, I focused primarily on vintage from the 1960s, ‘70s, and ‘80s with the free-spirited college student in mind. In 2009, I opened my Rag and Bone Etsy shop to try my hand at selling to a worldwide market. By 2012, I got a little restless, so I decided to close my State College store to sell online full time.
Over the last few years, I’ve found my vintage tastes more inspired by high-quality, distinctive, beautiful, earlier styles of vintage. You could say, as I’ve matured on this journey of selling vintage, so has my appreciation for the finer vintage I aim to sell.
Since closing my storefront, I have run my vintage business out of my home on Steele Hollow Road. My business is very much a part of who I am and now, a part of my home. I get so much inspiration working from home – my house is quite old with lots of history, and I am surrounded by my own vintage treasures and favorite finds. It’s from here, on Steele Hollow, that I work to bring the carefully chosen vintage pieces I find, back to life to be loved again by someone new.

Thank you so much for your interest in Steele Hollow Vintage!

International customers are responsible for all VAT, customs fees, and taxes imposed by your country. They are not included in the shipping charge and are not refunded if an item is returned. Following US customs law and Etsy guidelines, I do not reduce merchandise values or mark as "gift" on customs forms. All packages are marked secondhand merchandise with actual value declared.

Due to the high rate of lost packages shipped to some countries, I will send a message recommending a shipping upgrade or the purchase of insurance to buyers of some international destinations before shipping. By declining coverage, you accept the risks involved with shipment to your country and release Steele Hollow Vintage from any responsibility for packages lost or damaged during shipping.

I am happy to upgrade your shipping method and/or include additional insurance as requested. This is especially recommended for overseas shipping. All domestic packages are shipped with a tracking number and I will provide the proof of mailing customs declaration number for international packages on request.

If my shipping estimate is more than $2.00 over your actual cost (excluding add-ons), I will reimburse you the overage.

<> CONDITION <>

It goes without saying that vintage clothing and accessories have age to them and have been enjoyed by their previous owners. Therefore, they may show signs of some wear. I aim to present all my vintage items in the best possible condition for their age, but most items will not be absolutely perfect. Please keep in mind the secondhand nature of vintage items and the possibility of imperfections and atypical sizing.
*I am diligent when inspecting an item for imperfections and will describe even the smallest flaw I find for your consideration.
*Repairs are made when needed. If they are visible, I will point them out.
*Most everything is cleaned before presented for sale either by machine washing, hand washing, or professional dry cleaning. I will note which method I used in the listing. If the item was not cleaned by me, I will note that, as well as the reason why.

This is the list of tags I use for vintage condition ratings (note - I use the term "Vintage Condition" so it is understood the item is pre-owned and has age to it):

Excellent Vintage Condition -
The item is in outstanding vintage condition with no issues found to mention.
Great or Very Good Vintage Condition -
The item is in overall wonderful vintage condition, but there is one or a few flaws to mention.
Good Vintage Condition -
The item is in overall decent vintage condition, but there are a few flaws to mention that may be a little more obvious, but do not affect the wearability or use of the item. I will mark this type of item “AS IS” and it will be priced accordingly.

I do not sell items rated less than good.

<> SIZE AND MEASUREMENT INFORMATION <>

It is very important to compare the measurements I provide with your own measurements: both your body measurements and the measurements of a similar clothing item you own to one you are considering buying.

When measuring yourself, use a seamstress tape measure and do so with undergarments on, but clothing off:

*Measure your bust under your arms, around the fullest part of your chest.
*Measure your waist around your natural waistline, keeping tape a bit loose.
*Measure your hips around the fullest part of your body at the top of your leg.
*For desired length, measure from the point between your neck and shoulder down to the point you would like the garment to end.

When I measure clothing, each item is laid flat and measured with a seamstress tape in inches. It is helpful to compare these measurements with the measurements of a similar item of clothing you own to ensure a good fit:

Bust -
Measured across from underarm to underarm, and doubled.
Rib -
At the point between the underarm and waist, measured across, and doubled.
Waist -
Measured across the narrowest mid section at the natural waistline, usually on the waist seam or across the waistband on a skirt, and doubled.
Hip -
Measured across the fullest part of the dress/skirt, 9" below the waist, and doubled.

The following measurements are NOT doubled:

Shoulder -
Measured across the back from shoulder seam to shoulder seam.
Bodice Length -
Measured from the point between the collar and the shoulder seam down to the waist.
Skirt Length -
Measured from the waist down to the bottom of the skirt hem.
Full Length -
Measured from the point between the collar and the shoulder seam down to bottom of the skirt hem.
Sleeve Length -
Measured from the shoulder seam to the end of the sleeve or cuff, on the top side of the sleeve.
Sleeve Width at Upper Arm -
Measured from the underarm across to the top of the sleeve.
Sleeve Width at Cuff -
Measured across the opening of the sleeve at the cuff.

Measuring Shoes:
To ensure a good fit, measure a similar style of shoe you already have to compare with my measurements, especially for width as vintage shoes often run narrow.

Length -
A measuring tape is fed inside to the end of the toe of the shoe, run up the center of the insole, and back to the inside end of the heel.
Width -
A measuring tape is run inside to the widest part of the shoe (generally the ball of the foot) and across to the other side.
Heel -
The shoe is placed on a flat surface standing up and the tape is pulled tight to measure from the surface up to the seam where the heel meets the shoe.

This is the chart I use to determine specific US shoe sizes. It also will give you the information you need to convert your shoe size:
