About StelmaDesigns

Sales 995
On Etsy since 2008

I always wanted to have my own boutique....

Hello and welcome to Stelma Designs!

My shop is devoted to sharing my love of vintage and antique clothing and accessories, home decor and my handmade button jewelry. My family; husband and two daughters, live in a house built in 1895 and I have a studio in an adjacent building where I make my button jewelry and photograph and store my vintage clothing for sale. I keep busy with my girls, a large organic garden of perennials and edibles, 5 chickens, a cat, a dog and my off track thoroughbred horse.

I have a Masters in fine art from MICA and have worked in various mediums over the years from drawing, painting and sculpture to learning to throw on the potters wheel. I have been an artist and collector of old things ever since I was very small. I started collecting and wearing vintage clothing in the late 70s as a student and I still wear it today, though perhaps more selectively than I did in my younger days! I love antique and vintage buttons and began making necklaces from them in the late 1980s. I do take my vintage shop very seriously because accurate dating and good quality are very important to me. I never list any of my vintage clothing as "vintage condition", because what does that really mean? It is not true that all vintage is damaged or shows wear. It all depends, and so I believe all faults need to be described in detail and shown in a photo where possible.

What is so wonderful about supporting vintage sellers is not only the fact you are reusing garments that might otherwise fill a landfill, but the fabric and design quality is so far above and beyond the "fast fashion" of today that is cheap, trendy and ultimately going to fall apart, that is, unless you can afford designer couture. Also, if you are like me, you wish to be unique and stylish in your own way and not follow all the latest trends. Adding even a vintage accessory to a modern ensemble goes a long way to show individual style and isn't that what we all strive for? One final note, you will pay a lot less for incredible quality!

I am very proud to be an alumni member of the Vintage Fashion Guild and I highly recommend searching for our members using VFG in the search box to find knowledgeable sellers of top quality, authentic, vintage clothing.

Thank you for visiting! I do hope you visit now and again to see what is new in my shop.

Hello and welcome to StelmaDesigns!

I am proud to be a member of the Vintage Fashion Guild and the Vintage Fashion Guild Team; VfgTeam. The Vintage Fashion Guild (VFG) is an international organization dedicated to the promotion and preservation of vintage fashion. We offer authentic vintage clothing and accessories that are accurately dated, described and photographed in detail. You can search for our members using VFG in the search box.

My shop is stocked with vintage clothing and housewares as well as my handmade button necklaces. I love antique and vintage buttons and I fashion them into wearable couture jewelry, either delicate as a strand of pearls or bold and avant-garde for the women who likes to express her individual style. All my work with buttons is unique and handmade by me in my little studio.

I have collected and worn vintage clothing since the late 1970s and I will never knowingly list an item that is not vintage and of the eras I specify in the listings. I am a Vintage Fashion Guild member and I carefully research everything that I list so that you can be confident of the authenticity of the item you purchase from me. My reputation as an honest seller of authentic vintage is of the utmost importance to me.

Vintage clothing in most cases is previously loved and worn. Unless I list it as new old stock or with tags, the item has had a earlier life and may have been stored for a period of time, have signs of wear, small moth nibbles and the like. I am very careful in detailing every flaw I see on the garments so please do read my descriptions on the item and its condition and carefully review the photos, as I want you to be happy with the vintage clothing purchased from my shop.

Sizing on vintage clothing is different than current sizes and fit varies decade to decade with the fashions and styles of the times. For instance, 1950s dresses were more form fitting and worn with tight foundation garments and different shaped bras than today, and 1970s tops and blazers were much more fitted through the sleeves and closer to the body than modern garments currently are cut. The best way to determine if a vintage garment from my shop will fit you, is to use my garment measurements and compare to a similar garment you own that fits well. That will save you heartbreak upon receipt of a vintage item from my shop. I am more than happy to answer your questions on fit or anything else!

* Ours is non smoking home, but we do have pets, though not in my studio!

I hope you will enjoy your shopping experience and the handmade or vintage item that you purchase from StelmaDesigns. If you are not happy, please contact me right away.

You may return a purchase with the exception of lingerie and NOS never worn vintage clothing ("New Old Stock"). I do not refund for issues based on the fit of a garment, as I provide many measurements to help you with this. I am always happy to provide extra measurements and help you with questions in regards to fit, as vintage clothing is often not cut like modern clothing of today. Special occasion dresses; prom, cocktail and wedding dresses are also final sale, so please measure carefully and contact me for help with any questions at all. Items must be in the exact condition as sent with no smoke, body or perfume odors and unworn. Shipping fees are non refundable.

Request to make a return must be made within 24 HOURS of receipt of your package based on the tracking delivery time and date. Your returned item needs to be in the mail on its way back to me within THREE DAYS of delivery confirmation to you, in the same condition as sent, with no new damage or missing buttons etc, no pet hairs, smoke odors, body odors or perfume and I will refund the purchase price less shipping. Shop credit will be given for returns past the time frame mentioned above. My goal is for you to be a very satisfied and hopefully repeat customer to my shop!

***Receiving a vintage garment and then discovering it fits you poorly can be avoided if you follow my suggestions and ask questions. Please understand that I take great care to give you accurate and complete measurements on my garments so that a disappointment in the fit doesn't happen. A flexible measuring tape is your friend. It is *very important* that you compare my measurements to a similar garment you own that fits well. For body measurements, you must allow one to several inches for room to move. As I mention above under "Vintage Clothing", garments from the past were not made as forgiving in fit as modern clothing today can be. Fabric content and color is also listed to the best of my ability, so please ask questions if you do not know what a fabric is like or if a color needs to be exact. Please send me any questions on measurements and fit you need help with. I am very happy to help you in this regard! Nothing is more disappointing than finding your beautiful vintage garment you just received doesn't fit you.

Thank you!... and a special thank you to my many repeat and happy customers! Julia
