Announcement   Welcome! Each item here is an etching, an original work of art and labor of love. Plants and birds, mostly. If you are interested in a piece that has sold and is not listed, write me and I just might have another one in the archives. To see more work, click the 'Like' FB button or go to www.stephaniemartinart.com.

I sketch at museums and gardens, spend days or weeks preparing the copper plate, then hand ink and print, using techniques dating back to the Renaissance. To learn how etchings are made, please see my profile page.

My listings say 'only one available', but I often have more prints from the edition indeed available. I scan each listing anew so you know exactly which etching you are getting, since with hand-inked work there are slight variations. Thanks for visiting!

Thank you so much! This etching is so lovely. I am a California native plant enthusiast and you really captured the beauty of CA poppies. It also arrived very securely packaged.

About

Fell into intaglio-- aka etching-- by chance, and haven't turned back.

Eleven years ago I took a drawing class at the local junior college. A mysterious sounding class called 'intaglio' was also offered in the evening, after my day job as an elementary school teacher, so I jumped in and became enchanted with this medium. I like the many aspects it combines: repetitive tasks such as beveling and polishing the copper plate, or printing an edition; drawing flora and fauna, sifting through ideas and working out composition problems, and transforming these ideas onto copper via the alchemy of the etching process.

I recently looked at a sketchbook I filled. There were 32 sketches in it, 10 of which became etchings; of the ten, I was real pleased with six. Not all etchings cross the finish line. The ones that do are especially sweet.

I also paint, landscapes mostly.

Payment
I accept payment via paypal or credit card. Once I have received your payment, I will begin packing your art piece for shipping.
Shipping
I ship domestic items within 2 business days of purchase, via United States Postal Service Priority Mail. I make a reasonable guess on shipping/insurance costs. If the amount you paid is more than one dollar greater than the actual shipping/insurance cost, I will refund you the difference. If you would like to save money by having me use slower shipping (USPS first class: 2 - 5 days), please put a note with your order and I will refund you the extra shipping costs.

For international orders, shipping at faster rates (priority mail) boosts the cost from about 20 dollars for my usual parcel to over 40 dollars. This seems prohibitive, so I send international items by first class mail, insured. If you prefer a quicker delivery, please convo me and I can quote you a price for the upgraded shipping.

***IMPORTANT!!****If I am shipping your purchase to a country outside of USA, be aware that your country may add extra taxes/postage that you are responsible for. Even after I pay full postage on this end, you may be required by your country's policies to pay additional fees.
Refunds and Exchanges
I realize it is hard to buy a piece of art that you have not seen in person! If you are not completely satisfied with your purchase, please return it to me in good shape within 30 days and I will provide a refund minus the shipping. (You'll pick up the return shipping costs.) If an item is damaged in shipping, please let me know and I will send you a replacement or refund, whichever you prefer.
