STITCHPRISM / / / / /

StitchPrism encompasses the ceramic jewelry and planter creations of KellyAnne Mifflin, all handmade in West Philadelphia. Everything is made out of a love of exploring textures, colors and materials.

The name StitchPrism comes originally from my embroidery work, thinking about colors, light, shapes, weaving, and connecting, concepts which are also all part of my aerium and jewelry making world

Ceramic pieces are made by rolling out porcelain clay, cutting it into shapes, attaching high-heat wire for jewelry, glazing in a variety of colors and patterns and firing to 2232 degrees in a kiln. After the first firing, metallic gold luster (made with real gold) is applied to designs and kiln-fired again at a lower temperature. Studs are attached to surgical steel posts and dangle earrings and necklaces are paired with gold-filled or sterling silver earring hooks and chains. Everything is nickel free and hypoallergenic.

I began making jewelry by teaching an after school kids jewelry class in West Philadelphia, where week by week I taught myself jewelry techniques as I prepared new lessons using only recycled materials. As I became inspired by the projects started in class I spent more time at home making pieces and selling them in parks. Meanwhile I was also learning to embroider and opening portals with every stitch, until StitchPrism came into existence.

Over the years the class has shifted away from jewelry into a sci-fi magic art class and StitchPrism has shifted out of embroidery and into this jewelry company with the focus on creating magical jewelry.
