About

Miniature abstract porcelain paintings - in the form of jewelry

I began making porcelain jewelry while I was completing my BFA at the Kansas City Art Institute where I studied ceramic sculpture. At the time I became obsessed with the history of miniature portraits and began including them in my sculptures. Eventually they moved off the sculptures and I began making them for fun, for friends and family.

After college I needed to find a way to continue my practice and returned to making small-scale sculptures and pendants, selling them at a local gallery. Moving to New York further cemented my interest in making what I've enjoyed thinking of as small abstract porcelain paintings, as the process allows me to continue to work small and fire my pieces in communal environments.

As I've continued to develop my own style and cultivate a studio practice, my skills have grown and I've started to branch out into more traditional jewelry methods which I hope to start incorporating into my work. Using a simple color palette allows me to play with size, shape and pattern without creating pieces that are too busy, or will overwhelm an outfit. I enjoy the restrictions my materials present me with, as it challenges me to be more creative with less.

Sizing details

The measurements of each necklace indicates the length of the piece when laid flat, and the chain pulled taught. Please feel free to contact me if you have fit and length questions about a specific piece.

Of course, I'm always happy to change the length of the chain - just let me know in the purchase note.
