Storybook Fibers Is A Beautiful Dream Come True

Fairytales and daydreams led me to a passion for spinning wheels and the craft of spinning yarn. Learning this craft has been a beautiful blessing and ongoing pursuit. One of the peaceful and satisfying elements is processing raw fleece, straight from the gift of the sheep, goat, lama, or alpaca . . . thru the various steps into a whimsical and beautiful fiber preparation and then into yarn. Ocassionaly these yarns are knit into pixie hats for babies, or other fun delights.
All this fun is had nestled amongst the trees of the forest, in an old historic cottage which is home to the Storybook Workshop. Sometimes hand dyeing is done on the wood stove, and on a lovely day, fresh washed fleece may be seen drying outside in the clean mountain air . . .

*** SINGLE HOLD STITCH MARKERS ***

This information is for the type of stitch marker that is not on a ring or circle - but has an open area to slip onto the stitch itself.

~ Each stitch marker is fashioned entirely by hand and so they vary a bit from one another.

~ Marker pictured for listing is the one I'll ship to you unless otherwise noted.

~ They are great for marking your knitting on double point needles or crochet as they hold onto your stitch and not the needles.

~ I use mine all the time without any snagging or such.

~ You can gently open and close them a bit to adjust for yarn weights.

~ Each marker is entirely hand made and securely constructed.

~ Once you use them you'll probably want more - they really are great to use for socks, knitting in the round on double point needles and crochet.

~ I make the packaging the marker is on as well - right now it's made with paper imported from Italy, hand stamped and embossed, and I also hand dye the silk ribbon which you can use as a marker if you're in need of more - just tie the ribbon thru a stitch...

~ You'll also receive a little organza bag. Color choices are white, moss green, or gold, usually located in the last photo.

~ Please convo me your color choice of organza bag, or add a note in the notes to seller section when purchasing, otherwise I'll select one for you.

~ Note: shipping for these little markers is different than for other items in the shop. This is due to their diminutive size and price. They will ship USPS First Class mail with tracking. If you'd like your marker to arrive Priority Mail with tracking, please convo me and I can adjust the shipping amount for your listing.

Handspun Yarns

~ I try to use really high quality next to skin soft fiber.

~ Dyeing: Most of the fiber is dyed here in the kitchen or on the wood burning stove. I'll try to give reference as to who did the dye work if it isn't Storybook hand dyed.

~ Sometimes I buy prepared top etc, and sometimes I have the privilege of processing the fiber myself.

~ If you see angora as a lone ingredient (not wool/angora) it means it's from the boys, Willie - Lee and Ainsley, two male English Angora bunnies. They are very sweet and enjoy being combed or plucked for their wool.

~ Yardage - After spinning, I take the yarn off the wheel onto a niddy noddy and then set the twist. Next, after the yarn has dried it is re -skeined, and that's how and when I count the yardage.

~ Yarn is not dried under tension to help with accurate knitting crochet and weaving construction.

~ Each hand spun skein arrives labeled with it's name, yardage, weight, ingredients, and care suggestion.

~ All yarns have been 'set' prior to picture time.

~ Photos are taken in natural sunlight.

~ I recently read in a book - I think it may have been Knitting in Plain English - that I got at the Library book sale - how one end of yarn usually feels better to work with in one direction rather than the other.
So, as a suggestion (and I sheepishly say this) on most of the skeins I've tied a little piece of hand dyed silk ribbon to one end. That's the end you may want to consider to start creating with due to the direction of fiber preparation and spinning. It's kind of like touching your hair from the top down verses the bottom up kind of thing, and makes a nice difference as the yarn travels through your hands whilst you create with them. This may not apply to all the yarns. And each yarn is different, and it's applications vary, so really, it's only a suggestion.

~ Everything is created in a smoke - free pet free environment.

And I hope you enjoy your hand spun as much as I enjoy creating the yarn for you.

Thanks for taking a peek at Storybook Fibers.
Kristine
