My name is Erica and I am the designer, craftsmaiden, photographer & hand behind the hammer. I am a free-spirited soul descended from the mighty Nordic "Viking" kings on one side and Scottish Celtic kings on the other. For the most part, my work is inspired by my heritage, my historical studies and by the natural world...sometimes I delve into styles from or inspired by other cultures as I study them or if it's custom requested by a client. I am somewhat of an historian, and genealogist. I collect & study ancient artifacts & read like a fiend. (Basically I'm just a big ol' nerd.) As I grow in knowledge of my own heritage, so does my style...if that makes sense. I like to think of myself as creating "modern Celtic" or "modern Nordic". Sometimes I will recreate ancient pieces or incorporate design elements inspired from ancient Celtic or Nordic artifacts. The runes and runic symbols used in my work are not intended to be Esoteric or "magical" in nature, but instead historical, factual symbols that represent my heritage.

I am not a professional jeweler; I am a self-taught metal artist that creates jewelry. My style is rustic & perfectly imperfect. My jewelry represents a fusion of the material world (the physical materials / visual inspirations) and my spiritual or energetically expressive contributions. I am inspired visually by the Earth & awe in wonder at the smallest details. Spiritually I am inspired by the word, works and wonders of God. I incorporate a lot of nature-inspired themes & earthy, rustic textures in my work. I have no formal training in metalsmithing. Everything I learn is through personal trial & error & divine inspiration. I limit my use of power tools to a small rotary polisher & choose instead to employ ancient, primitive crafting and finishing techniques which lend an organic artifact; or "modern relic" vibe to my finished artworks.

The stones, metals & materials used in my work are thoughtfully and ethically curated and sourced for their aesthetics, quality and sometimes rarity. My metalwork is personally hand fabricated with love, intent and the highest attention to craftsmanship and details.

If you're shopping for unique wedding or engagement rings, one-of-a-kind gemstone jewelry, modern bohemian or minimalist earrings or necklaces, forged Viking metalwork or primitive, distressed leather bracelets and cuffs; you'll find it all here. I also craft rustic home decor, bar ware & utilitarian items as well as fancy things such as tags and memorials for beloved pets. If you can dream it I can likely make it!

CUSTOM & PERSONALIZED REQUESTS ARE ALWAYS WELCOME!

I love working with my clients to create the perfect piece of jewelry or special keepsake for any occasion. I give every order the highest attention to detail and caring, offer quick turn around and gift package each treasure with love.

I have a vast array of gems and materials in my collection so turn around time for custom creations is usually very quick once a design has been agreed upon. I also accept commissions for customer supplied materials or stones that you'd like transformed into something updated or wearable. I provide design options and sketches when necessary and photos of the finished custom designs before they ship. Production time for most custom work is about 14 business days. Please note, custom items do not qualify for return.

ABOUT RUNES & THEIR ROLE IN MY WORK:

There are two Norse runic alphabets and one 33 character Anglo Saxon runic futhorc. The Younger Futhark (16 character; younger revised system) and Elder Futhark (24 character older proto-Germanic system) are the oldest of the three. The runes I use are from the Elder Futhark alphabet which is the oldest version. The given meanings are based on information and explanations from the medieval Rune Poems and Poetic Edda. While scholarly knowledge isn’t extensive enough to give a detailed explanation as to which meanings were authentic to the Viking culture we do have basic knowledge as given to us by the Rune Poems, caskets, gravestone markings. Vikings did not write manuscripts. They believed as their Germanic ancestors did, that the spoken word had great power. Most of their traditions, beliefs and lore were passed down verbally. They did carve runes into art and possessions as a way to mark them; generally with their name. " _____ owns this" or "____ was here" kinda thing.

Any other meanings modernly attached to runes, especially by Esoteric communities, are entirely conjecture and speculation; are modern, associated with witchcraft and are not factual to history. Because I am a purist and believe in truth and finding truths I stick to sharing scholarly knowledge that can be proven by historical data and not new age belief systems. Not to say a person or group can't attach their own meanings to a symbol and that be their interpretation, instead I am saying that as a Viking descendant, I am concerned strictly with scholarly truth & knowledge and educating others with known historical fact without esoteric speculation concerning the beliefs of my long distant people. Norse peoples did attach magical and philosophical meanings to runes. We know this from the Eddas but not to the extent those that use them today in their magical crafts and new age religions give. Any meanings and symbolism I provide are the true, ancient Runic meanings as we understand from the facts and evidence the scholarly community has and not from sources that lean on modern conjecture.

About MistyMountainForge

A little about myself...

My name is Erica "Lovesmith" and I am the artist, metalsmith, and everything else behind the curtain here at Misty Mountain Forge™.

I have carried on a love affair with rare and unique gemstones, minerals, fossils, random found objects, and crystals since I was a very young child. I will forever be amazed by the colors and patterns the Creator put on this earth for us to enjoy & admire.

I have been metalsmithing (self taught & a little help from my friends) for the past 9+ years and enjoy every moment my hammer hits the anvil. I started this journey on a desperate whim with a piece of railroad track, a hammer and some scrap copper wire. I found that I am the happiest and most satisfied when I am able to freely create. I devoted my full time attention to honing my skills as a metalsmith and growing my innate talents. I feel extremely humbled, blessed and thankful to be doing something that I love so much with my time while passing the love on to you; my supporters & friends.

A personal philosophy of mine is: "When we freely give to others everything we need is provided to us." I strive to support other artists and craftsmen, shop local when possible because I believe in supporting fellows in the community first. I support organic farming and humane animal husbandry. I live my life as chemical free and as pampering to the Earth and my environment as possible. When you purchase from my shop you are also supporting these ideals and ways of life.

Outside of the studio I enjoy soaking up the local culture of one of my favorite cities, Charleston, SC as well as my hometown of Charlotte, NC. I enjoy metal detecting, fossil & artifact hunting as well as camping and hiking. I love to study and dabble in poetry, culinary arts, wild food foraging & travel. I am an avid reader and enjoy studying the scriptures and spiritual works. I explore nature daily with my camera in hand. The small wonders of this earth captivate me most. They tell us the secrets of heaven if we have the ears to hear. Getting lost in the details is so relaxing and satisfying.

ABOUT MY PROCESS & MATERIALS:

I use natural gemstones and organic materials in my jewelry which come from reputable and skillfully sourced stone cutters and mines or are personally collected, hand hewn, cut or polished.

I do not use dyed, chemically coated and altered "aura" crystals, or synthetic stones (unless recycled) in my work. I limit the use of chemicals in my process and always dispose of waste in appropriate manners. I have a deep love and respect for nature, the earth and future generations so I take reasonable care with the footprints I leave behind. We can't do everything but we can do our part and for me, limiting the use of synthetics makes the greatest impact on our communal water and air.

All metals are US sourced from recycled materials.

All animal products such as bone, leather, or feathers are legally and ethically sourced or found. I use natural cowhide leather, elkskin or buckskin as well as vegetable dyed leathers that are certified to be tinted with lead-free dyes. Vegan options are always available, however I personally feel synthetic materials do more harm than good to the environment, humans and animals alike.

Quality customer service and craftsmanship are of utmost importance. All of my jewelry carries a lifetime craftsmanship guarantee as I truly treasure my creations just as you soon will. I am easy to approach should you have any questions or issues! I would love to hear from you.

Damage from abuse or mistreatment of goods voids this guarantee. Allowing another jeweler to repair or work on your jewelry voids this warranty.

All returns must have return authorization prior to shipping back to seller.

Once return authorization is granted, please return merchandise within 7 days via USPS with tracking in the original gift box and in original, unworn condition. Adding insurance is recommended to cover loss or damage of your return merchandise while in-transit. Return merchandise is the buyer's responsibility until it is scanned delivered at seller's mailbox. If a return or exchange gets lost in the mail it will have to be repurchased to be replaced if it does not have insurance coverage.

RETURNS FOR STOCK & READY-MADE MERCHANDISE:

Returns will gladly be authorized for up to 7 days after customer receipt of merchandise. Return shipping will be paid by the buyer unless a mistake was made by the seller. Seller will provide a return shipping label if merchandise is being returned due to seller error. Original shipping costs will not be refunded unless the item is being returned due to seller's error.

If a replacement is necessary or exchange is necessary, the incorrect merchandise must be returned for inspection, recycling and repurposing before a replacement item will be issued.

If merchandise is sent back for return/refund/exchange without prior return authorization from the seller no action will be taken and merchandise will be sent back to the buyer at the buyer's expense. An invoice in the amount of $7.50 will be sent to the buyer to pay for return postage. Once postage is paid the merchandise will be sent back or then be accepted for return/refund/exchange; whichever may apply.

REFUNDS FOR CUSTOM SIZED OR PERSONALIZED ORDERS:

Custom designs or personalized items are not returnable. Proof photos will be sent prior to shipping for buyer approval where applicable.

Custom or custom sized merchandise cannot be cancelled or returned after they have shipped. If, for any reason, the buyer chooses to cancel a custom order before it ships, the buyer will be responsible for reimbursing Misty Mountain Forge™ for any supplies or materials (gemstones, metals, etc) that were purchased especially for and in order to complete the buyer's custom request.

The dollar amount (cost) of special ordered supplies will be retained by Misty Mountain Forge™ and will not be included in the buyer's total refund amount. The buyer will respectfully be notified of this charge/restock fee prior to the refund being processed.

DAMAGED/LOST IN TRANSIT PACKAGES:

I will do all I can to help locate or replace lost merchandise.

Items lost in transit or received damaged are covered by insurance and will be refunded or replaced at no cost to the buyer.

If merchandise arrives damaged please send a convo with photos of the damaged merchandise and packaging along with a brief explanation within 24 hours of receipt of merchandise. Please save all original packaging and damaged goods for insurance claims.

Original shipping charges for lost or damaged in-transit merchandise will be refunded to the buyer, or when applicable, applied towards the shipping charge of a replacement order.

Items are considered "lost" if not delivered to the buyer or returned to the seller within 30 days from ship date.

Merchandise delivered to an address provided incorrectly by the buyer is not covered by insurance and can not be refunded or replaced by the seller unless the merchandise is returned to the seller. Buyer is responsible for paying postage to reship. When applicable, an invoice in the amount of $7.50 will be sent to the buyer and must be paid before merchandise is reshipped.

STOLEN PACKAGES:

If merchandise is suspected stolen, please send a convo immediately. The sooner the better so we can alert USPS. Please, also check with neighbors, other persons at the address, the postal courier or an associate at the local USPS. Often packages thought stolen are recovered after following these steps. If the buyer exhausts these options and still suspects the package is stolen, the buyer will be required to file a report with the local police or with the USPS.

Regretfully, merchandise that is stolen after proof of delivery cannot be refunded or replaced by the seller, however, a 10% customer courtesy discount good toward a replacement purchase will be offered.

RESIZING POLICIES:

Buyer is responsible for providing correct ring sizes for custom merchandise orders. I recommend stopping by a local jewelry store to get sized. It only takes a few minutes, is free of charge and will ensure you get the perfect fit! Be sure to take into consideration the width and thickness of the band as sometimes this will affect the size of the ring.

The fee for resizing due to buyer error is $25 plus $7.50 for return shipping.
(Exclusions apply to rings with set stones. In such a case, resize fees will be assessed on a case-by-case basis.)

Resizing due to seller error will be remedied at no cost to buyer.

Return authorization is required for merchandise returned for resizing. Once authorization is granted an Etsy invoice for the resize fee plus the return shipping charge will be sent. Once the invoice is paid a return shipping address will be provided.

All remake orders may take up to 8-10 days process depending on volume. If an order is being remade due to seller error the remake will go to the top of production list and takes first priority. Once the returned package is received an accurate reship date will be calculated and promptly relayed to the buyer.

Frequently asked questions
Custom and personalized orders

Most anything in my shop can be customized or personalized. I also welcome custom orders and love working with my customers to create the perfect gift or special piece of jewelry. If you can dream it, I can make it! Convo me for details.

Sizing details

If you see a design in my shop that isn't your size convo me and I'll do my best to accommodate your needs. Buyer is responsible for providing correct ring sizes for custom merchandise orders. Keep in mind that thicker or wider bands or rings could require the wearer to wear a larger size than usual. I recommend stopping by a local jewelry store to get sized. It only takes a few minutes, is free of charge and will ensure you get the perfect fit! No worries if you order the wrong size. I offer resizing for rings without set stones for a flat rate of $25 plus return shipping.

Care instructions

Chemical cleansers are not recommended. To clean bare metals use a polishing cloth or organic ketchup to restore shine.

Applied patinas on jewelry are not permanent and will change and evolve with wear and surface contact. Keep your jewelry out of contact with water, lotions and cleaning chemicals to protect patinas. I recommend removing patinated jewelry before washing hands, bathing or strenuous activity where sweat will react with patinas.

Copper & patina jewelry should NOT be worn during heavy physical activity (work out, swimming, yard work, etc) to prevent harmless skin oxidation and to help retain patina. Keeping skin dry is key to prevention. If skin oxidation does occur, simply wash the area with soapy water.

Gift wrapping and packaging

My jewelry boxes are made in the United States of post consumer recycled paper. I carve my own stamps and personally apply the design to every box so that each is a work of art in itself!

If you have a particular color scheme to match please contact me for options. I love creative packaging and enjoy making the outside of the box as pretty as the contents inside.

Wholesale availability

As an artist and designer I take great pride in offering unique, one-of-a-kind jewelry that's made special for the individual ordering. For these reasons I do not offer wholesale or mass produce my work.
