Hi, I’m Shruti Goradia, founder of Studio Anai. Studio Anai, named after my daughter, is my mission-driven passion project.
I grew up in India and moved to the US for graduate school where I’ve lived ever since. All of my life, I've had the good fortune to travel extensively within India and around the world. These travels, from a very young age, inculcated in me a deep appreciation of rich traditions, intricate arts, exquisite craftsmanship and their storied past. I loved hearing my mom share her knowledge of the crafts and delve into a dialogue with the artisans to learn more. Their faces lit up as they shared their passion and processes, giving us a glimpse into their culture and heritage.
When I moved to the US, I learned how to blend my eastern upbringing into my western existence to express a personality, uniquely my own. I loved the juxtaposition of the old and the new, the east and the west, the traditional and the contemporary. I was complimented by friends and strangers alike, on a gorgeous pair of earrings, a beautifully woven scarf, embroidered shoes, handmade purses and more. Friends often ask me to get two of everything I buy on my travels or seek my input with decorating their house to add color, charm and character. The compliments sure make me happy, but what truly brings a joy to my heart is when they make me think of the story behind pieces - where I’d got them, who I’d bought them from, or how intricate the process was that made them and so on.
I have long since been saddened that centuries old, rich skills are slowly dying and being replaced by mass produced monotony. Through the years I’ve met so many strong, culturally curious, fabulous women who appreciate the diversity and love to build their visual brand + express their unique personalities. They are eager to know the story behind the piece, learn more about the artist or craft and celebrate supporting a cause. These women, the artists and my love for the crafts is what made me start Studio Anai. It is my attempt at bringing unique, artisanal, handmade creations to the modern world while donating a percentage of my proceeds to artisans and children in need. I aspire to donate 20% of my proceeds to those in need and appreciate your help in getting me there.
