Something new! I'm working on a series of 8 x 8 acrylic portraits on watercolor paper. Affordable and easy and inexpensive to ship and to frame. Watch for more in the future!
I love this vintage photo of this adorable boy and his dog especially since the dog seems to be the star! joy I used a new method where I print the photo on fabric, then paint it by hand, and then layer it with encaustic medium on a birch board.
I so love working with encaustic and vintage photos! This is a new method I learned where I print the photos on fabric and then paint them before adding the wax. Such fun!

About

My creative story starts with a disaster...

I have always loved art, loved to paint and draw as a child. In college my major was Art History, such a lovely way to study about history through the eyes of artists of each time period. But alas, practicality edged in and I combined my love of learning and sharing and became a teacher. For the past 44 years I have been an educator--a classroom teacher, an owner of a center for dyslexic children and adults, and the last 26....a dream job. I have been a school librarian for a small country school in the foothills of beautiful Santa Barbara. Books, teaching, children. Nothing better. In June of 2015 I retired and have returned home to my art.

But the disaster....in 2008 my house burned in a raging wildfire. Somehow I managed to grab a few boxes and in those boxes were seven old photos of myself as a child. All the other pictures burned, all my family photos of my parents and grandparents, along with those from my childhood. But there were those seven. In the last year, having recovered from the disaster--I now live in a lovely little place on a street lined with Jacaranda trees, (a much safer location, I might add)--I began thinking of those photos and it seemed they needed to be “honored” in some way and I thought, why not combine that idea with doing something else I’ve always wanted to do--art.

I started with one, the one of me in a hula skirt at age four, and it was so healing, not to mention fun, that I kept going and then found myself searching for old photos and vintage ephemera, wanting to combine them in interesting ways.

I took a little detour into small images with a Buddhist theme that were meant for an art show called “Buddha Abides.” The organizer of the show moved to France (lucky girl!) and the show did not happen but I liked making the three dimensional images so I just kept on.

My studio is a small one as befits my art. When I am working, the world falls away and when I come back to it, I am refreshed. I love the search for the materials I use in my art almost as much as the creating. Old photos spark stories. What was happening the moment the shot was taken? What was in the photographer's mind? And why has this photo found its way into my hands, now, to be made into art? I love the beautiful, careful script on old papers, such a contrast to our quick and busy communications today. Each of my pieces is a story made visual.

Shipping
Items are carefully packaged and shipped USPS Priority Mail and US First Class Mail International. Items will be shipped after payment is received. Tracking information will be sent via an Etsy shipping notification upon shipment.

Please make sure your Etsy address is current. I will be using it for shipping unless a different address is requested.

All international orders ship via USPS First Class International. If the actual shipping is less than the posted amount I'll refund the difference if it is over $1.

International orders shipping USPS First Class International do not include delivery confirmation or tracking. The *average* transit time for International delivery is around 3-4 weeks, however shipping times vary greatly depending on your location, proximity to major holidays, and your local postal service.

Sometimes international shipments are held at your local post office for pickup (not just dropped at your doorstep), so please be sure to check there if you are waiting on your order... often they forget to leave you a note.

Depending on your country, additional customs charges, fees or taxes may be due upon receipt of your package. Customs fees, taxes, tariffs or duties that may be incurred at the time of delivery are not included and are the responsibility of the buyer. As part of this responsibility, please note that I cannot accommodate requests to mark shipments as “gifts” to avoid custom fees, taxes, tariffs, or other duties.
Refunds and Exchanges
I want you to love your artwork! If for any reason you aren't satisfied with your purchase, please notify me immediately. You may return the artwork, packed in its original box and packing, if done so within 7 days for a full refund. You are, however, responsible for return shipping charges.

Should your order arrive damaged, please contact me right away and we can work something out.

After 1 week, all sales are considered final.
