Studio Zeedauw - handmade prints by Rozemarijn Oudejans
I've always wanted to have my own shop. Even as a child I 'played shop' with a little cash register, miniature groceries and my family as customers.
But what kind of shop? I dreamt of owning a bakery, but being a graphic designer it made more sense to start something in that field. After taking printmaking classes in my spare time and getting completely hooked on printmaking, the idea of opening a print shop began to grow. A printmaker friend pointed me to Etsy and it didn't take long before I had my first listings up. I still remember how excited I was about my first sale. And to be honest, I still get just as excited now when one of my prints sells and I get to wrap it up and send it off to a happy customer.
I'm originally from The Netherlands, but lived and worked in Ottawa, Canada for 7 years. Living in another country gave me great inspiration and taught me how to connect with people through my printmaking work. And through Etsy I get to share my work with people all over the world.
In 2013 I returned to The Netherlands and started my own design and printmaking studio in Tilburg. Being my own boss is hard work, but gives me great fulfillment. The freedom to do things my own way, to make unique prints by hand, is priceless.
I can't wait to connect with new people and find new opportunities to share my love of printmaking with others, in my community and around the world.
Owner, Designer, Maker
Studio Zeedauw is grafisch ontwerper en ambachtelijk drukker Rozemarijn Oudejans. Ik werk vanuit mijn studio in Tilburg, Nederland. Meer info: www.studiozeedauw.nl
All my prints are hand-pulled in small editions from handmade woodcuts, linocuts and etchings. My printing plates are made of wood, linoleum or zinc and I use professional oil-based non-toxic printing inks to print on heavy 100% cotton rag paper. I print by hand or by using an old-fashioned printing press. Please allow for minor variations since this is a manual process and every print is an original artwork.
The inspiration for my prints comes from daily life and nature around me. I love using bright colours, but also enjoy working with the contrast of black&white. I like printmaking because it has both technical and artistic aspects to it, and because it's a 'democratic' art form: the editions allow me to share my work with others, for relatively little money compared to other art forms.
