All you need is love, and a good campfire.
All of Erica's art is lovely. Fact. This is no exception.
Strong and sturdy bison on an adorable notebook. Can't wait to put it to great use!

I just LOVE it! Well done Erica...the love you have for what you do comes shining through:-) Thank you for sharing your talents with me.
How it all started
Subtle Acts started in October 2010 and has slowly evolved into the shop it is now. In the beginning, I offered resin jewelry featuring designs I created and set in pendant necklaces. If you have ever attempted to use resin, you know how smelly it is, and soon my house began to take on the odor of a plastics factory.
Fortunately for me, my mother-in-law always insists on buying everyone a Christmas present - she doesn't take no for an answer, that lady! For Christmas 2010, I let her know that I had always wanted to give carving lino blocks a try and the shop has not been the same since then. I started carving in January 2011 and began offering my designs stamped on cards and journals not too long after.
I am still relatively new to the whole carving world, so each stamp has been a learning experience. I still get that ultra nervous, butterfly stomach every single time I get down to the fine-tuning of a design. One mistake and the whole thing is toast. My husband is actually worse about getting nervous while watching me carve a stamp than I am carving it. I think it has to do with the fact that I am notoriously unsafe with knives and actually sliced my thumb once trying to open a can of biscuits with a knife. We no longer eat canned biscuits, which is good for many reasons. So far, knock on wood, I have avoided any slicing and dicing of fingers while carving.
In 2013, I began offering prints of some of my handcarved designs as well as my illustrations and photos. I can't tell you how long I have been wanting to do this! The prints are printed on 100% professional quality, acid-free paper using archival pigment inks.
I do everything in my shop - carve the lino and print the notebooks and cards; draw and paint my illustrations, prepare photographs, package/mail sold items, hand write thank you notes to each customer. I have a day job so all of my work in the shop takes place in the evenings and weekends. It sometimes makes for some busy days, but I wouldn't trade it all for the world!
