Crafting has been something I've enjoyed as long as I can remember. Projects allow me to express my creativity, while keeping my brain active learning new forms of expression. Each fresh idea produces great pleasure and the list of accomplishments seems to grow longer and longer. I've dabbled in penny rugs, candle mats, crocheting and needlepoint and, this is where my hobby turned into more than a hobby. Recipients of my hand-crafted gifts complimented me on my skills and suggested I try my hand at selling.
After the death of my father-in-law in May 2013, my daughter encouraged me to open an Etsy shop. I'd known of Etsy and liked what I saw, so I decided to give it a whirl and opened a shop later that year. I found an outlet for my grief in naming my shop in memory of my father-in-law. Etsy has provided a wonderful platform on which to sell my wares.
Sue's Akorn Shop currently carries kitchen and bath towels, pillows, key fobs, pin cushions, aprons, primitive as well as vintage items, coasters and mercury glass. The shop carries a variety of acorn set coasters. Not only are they functional and whimsical, the acorn theme ties in nicely with my shop name. I add new and different items all the time.
Sue's Akorn Shop has reached nearly 900 sales since opening over two years ago--not bad for a full-time wife, mother and grandmother. Prior to opening my shop, I was inexperienced at sales and web design. It was a challenge to design, create and list my shop and all its contents. While intimidating at first, I've taken each opportunity to learn a little more about photography, layout, descriptions and SEO and found myself enjoying the challenge, with each improvement.

All items are made in a smoke free and pet friendly environment. (There is a small dog in the home that is a non shedding shipoo).
