About SummerhillSpinner
Where It All Started
As a kid, I was surrounded by women that knit, crocheted and sewed. My Aunt, Isabelle, taught me to knit and crochet. I made socks, sweaters, blankets, hats, scarves. You name it, I was always working with yarn.
Then came college (music), law school, and practice as a lawyer. I decided to close the law practice and pursue my love of art that I got from my father who was a talented watercolor artist and advertising illustrator, who also did a stint at Disney as an animator. I studied 2d animation hoping to improve my drawing skills. At the very end of that time, I asked the question: "Where does yarn come from?" Well, that began this intense learning curve and joy of making my own yarn from all sorts of materials.
Wool came first because it was the most readily available. Not long into that, however, I discovered spinning cotton. It's a fiber that seems to cause fear in some, but it really "rings my bell". I love to spin cotton. And I spin a lot of it.
What to do with all this beautiful yarn that I've been making? Knitting and Crocheting no longer hold my attention the way they did when I was a kid. But, weaving...Well, that's something I can really enjoy. And I do.
I enjoy commercial yarns as well as using my own handspun yarns. They make something completely unique and quite different than what can be made with commercially-spun yarns. But there is a place for both.
I hope you enjoy the things I make.
