Into the glimmer...

Despite growing up a few hours from the ocean and only visiting during the summer for vacations and weekend trips, there is no place where I feel more at home or more inspired. I have salt water in my soul and I'm happiest with sand beneath my toes. And in late summer 2013, I finally managed to make the lifelong dream of living at the beach come true - I relocated to Charleston, SC and live in the beachy suburb of Mount Pleasant.

And for as long as I can remember, I've been enamored with jewelry. Perhaps I associate the beach and jewelry because I also spent my childhood summers beading and knotting little baubles.

But for whatever reason, what started with making friendship bracelets during my pre-teen years has evolved (many years later) into this fledgling shop filled with handmade jewelry inspired by this laid-back beach life.

I hope you enjoy looking around my shop as much as I enjoyed the creative process of designing each unique piece.

Hello! Thanks for stopping by Sunwashed.

For as long as I can remember, I've loved creating jewelry. I discovered artisan lampwork beads a few years ago and I immediately fell in love with their beauty. I chose the name Sun Sugar Studio for my shop because I work mostly with boro lampwork beads, and while they are beautiful in any light, their true radiance comes out when they're in the sun.

I hope you enjoy browsing my shop. Check back often to see my newest items, or subscribe to my shop's RSS feed. .

This isn't my first Etsy shop, but I opened this opened this one because I wanted to go a different direction with my jewelry. I previously had a shop at Check there for the positive feedback I received.

Please note that SALE section items are not customizable and are sold as-is.

A note about artistan lampwork:
Artisan lampwork beads are created by hand, one at a time by glass artists using a rod and a flame. Because of this, you can expect slight differences from bead to bead. I think this adds to their charm and beauty. Each bead is unique and is its own little work of art. When you’re wearing lampwork jewelry, you know there’s no other piece out there exactly like yours, even if the overall design is the same.

About my photography and lampwork beads:
I photograph my designs in natural light to bring out the colors of the beads. Part of the charm of boro lampwork beads is that they change colors depending on the light source. Generally, they'll look more muted in artificial light and their true vibrance comes out in natural light. They are gorgeous either way. I do my best to represent the colors accurately, but note that colors vary on different computer monitors.

About my studio:
My studio is smoke-free, but not pet-free (that would be sad!). While my dogs are non-discriminatory about where they leave their fur, I do my best to keep it out of my workspace and out of your packages.

Consignment and custom inquiries welcome.
