Announcement   Welcome to my newest shop, Sun Surf and Seaglass. I hope you like what you see! Here you will find handcrafted sea glass and charm jewelry using natural, surf tumbled glass that has been beautifully frosted by its long ocean journey. Every piece of glass I use is just as it was found (except for drilling). Each piece is a mystery with its own story.

Mother Nature has turned trash into treasure, creating beautiful, colorful gems from discarded bottles, plates and other glass items. Each shape and color inspires me to design a piece of jewelry embracing its uniqueness.

Custom orders are gladly accepted. Convo me with your request and I will create a custom listing just for you.

According to legend, sea glass is tears mermaids shed over sailors lost at sea. The color of their tears match the color of their tails.

Please visit my other Etsy shop, TrudyJames, for personalized, hand stamped and one-of-a-kind jewelry designs featuring mixed metals in combination with unique findings, semi precious stones and pearls.

About

Sea Glass - Gems With A Story All Their Own

Sea glass is a relatively new medium for me. Even though I grew up in Southern California, I wasn't one of those people who hunted for sea glass along the beaches. In fact, I didn't know of its existence.

One day, several years ago, I was participating in a local art and craft show selling my jewelry. A customer came up to me and handed me a few pieces from her treasured sea glass collection. She asked if I could make some jewelry for her out of it. She told me about her collection, where each piece came from, when she found it and who she was with. It was fascinating to me that anyone could be so emotionally attached to a little piece of glass that was once discarded trash! I was intrigued by her stories and couldn't stop looking at the frosty, pastel colored gems she gave me. I said 'yes' to her request and made her a necklace and bracelet. Ever since then, I've become 'obsessed' with sea glass. I started collecting it, learning about it and making jewelry with it.

I started taking my sea glass creations to the art and craft shows and was overwhelmed by how many people stopped to have a look. So many stories and wonderful memories people shared with me. Some families had collected sea glass for generations. Some beach combed all the world for the tiny treasures. And of course, there were a few stories of those who managed to find that illusive piece of 'red' glass.

It was then I realized sea glass wasn't just glass, it's a passion! Each piece has a story to tell, a life of its own, a mystery of history and adventure, a common language around the world.

I hope you enjoy looking at my shop. I love making sea glass jewelry. My goal is to create unique designs showcasing the sea glass and sharing its beauty. Even the smallest piece is a treasure!!!

I've spent my lifetime being creative. My first original art work was done in red lipstick on my parent's living room carpet when I was 3. I've explored other mediums since then. Designing and creating sea glass jewelry is one of my current faves!

Additional policies and FAQs
Caring For your Jewelry:

Sterling silver, copper & bronze naturally oxidize over time when exposed to air and other corrosive chemicals, including but not limited to, lotions, perfumes, chlorinated or salted water. In addition, wearing your jewelry while bathing is not recommended as the water vapor and chemicals in the water will speed up tarnishing.

Each piece of jewelry should be stored separately in an airtight container such as a plastic bag. This will discourage the oxidation process (will not stop it) and help protect it from scratching, breaking or damage.

Should your jewelry require cleaning, you may use a liquid soap (such as Dawn dishwashing liquid) mixed with water. Rub gently and pat your jewelry dry with a soft cloth. Jewelry should be completely dry prior to storage. To maintain a highly polished surface on your metals, use an approved jewelers cloth (available at jewelry and department stores).

If your jewelry has a brushed matte finish, you may use a special abrasive cloth to remove oxidation or small scratches (a small abrasive pad is included with my jewelry designs that are ordered with a brushed matte surface). The abrasive pads are also available to purchase separately.

If your jewelry is wire wrapped or has intricate details and cleaning/polishing is difficult, it is advisable to seek professional cleaning (such as steam cleaning) at your local jewelry store if required.

Following these simple instructions will help keep your jewelry looking fresh and new.
