Welcome! We create One of a kind, Cabochons & Wire Wrapped stone Jewelry from Lake Superior Agates, Bowlerite, and other gem stones. All of the stones you find in my shop are unique, and cannot be reproduced. My husband and I do all of the cutting of the rough rock, or bowling balls, shaping, and cabbing together, until we have a beautiful stone to create a piece of jewelry with. My wire wraps are designed to show off the stones, not the wire, as, in our opinion, it is the stone that makes the beauty of the piece, there for the wire is meant to be an accent to the stone, and never meant to hide it. The technique I use was created and is used, to give you a final piece of heirloom quality jewelry that you can pass down to your children and grandchildren and beyond. With normal use and wear, your stone will not loosen or fall out of the wire setting. I will not sell something I don't believe will stand the test of time, wear and use. You can feel confident in your purchases.

Each and every Lake Superior Agate is different, and each one shown was found by me, right in my back yard during the 8 years I lived in central Minnesota. Lake Superior Agates are among the most sought after Agates with collectors, because of their age, and timeless beauty. Finding quality Lake Superior agates is not an easy task, there is a reason they are called the elusive agate!

Each piece is created in a unique wire wrapping fashion, set at an affordable price, and made with genuine, quality, one of a kind gem stones, and wrapped in Sterling silver filled, red brass (looks very much like gold), or copper wire. Making a quality piece of jewelry, at a price you can afford to pay. I use Good quality wire and supplies in my work. You will not find plated wires in my pieces. Further, due to a lot of people having skin allergies, I do not use coatings, or treatments of any kind on my wire. Some may use these products, especially on copper wire, to help it not tarnish, but I do not. There are many similarities between sterling silver, Argentium® and silver filled wire. Silver filled wire can be use just like sterling silver, and is even non-allergenic like sterling silver. If you're typically allergic to plated jewelry then silver filled wire is ideal for you. Silver filled wire is comparable to Argentium® as they have many of the same qualities.--
My items are made with durability, strength, and beauty in mind. We do offer wholesale pricing when buying in larger quantities all at once, just message me for details.

Enjoy my store, and if you have any questions, feel free to contact me!

Thank you

About

Our Love for Rocks

In May of 2009, after a few years of working 70 or more hours a week at a local casino, I was terminated. You know that feeling, what am I gonna do, where will the money come from to pay the bills, etc. In this economy, there are no jobs, nothing at least in t
his area of the northern U.S. For the first time in 25 years I find myself out of work, the feeling of emptiness was extreme, to say the least, not at all to mention that feeling of "what will I do now". My self confidence was destroyed, as, I am one of those people who "lives to work".
The 2nd week after I was fired, I needed something to do to fill a little time in my days, so I started planning a garage sale. This does 2 things for me, it fills some empty space and time, and it makes a little money as well. So I started marking everything I could live without, and not feel like I had lost anything in the process. The 3rd week after I was fired, I set up the garage sale outside my garage, and people started coming, buying things here and there, but nothing spectacular, really. As I am wheeling and dealing with someone, another guy comes up and asks me if I would allow him to go "agate Picking" behind my house. You see, we have a fairly large rock and sand pit about 200 feet behind us. Now I had NO idea what he was talking about, so I ask him....what's an agate? He starts to explain the "waxy" looking rock, and I must have had an "I'm stupid" look on my face, because after only a couple of minutes talking he decides to look around my driveway. I am thinking, "this guy must be nuts", as he looked all over the ground for an agate. The guy finds a tiny chip of an agate and shows it to me, and just as he described, it was a waxy looking, kind of shiny little thing. Cool, now I know what an agate is.
On Sunday following my garage sale, I decided to see whether I could find anything or not, so off I go, no bucket, no tools, just empty pockets. I found tons and tons, of what I now know would not even qualify as aquarium rocks, but it was fun, none the less.......but now.....I am hooked. Every single day I went hunting after that, and with every single day, I found bigger and bigger pieces of Lake Superior Agates. Some days I would spend 8-10 hours hunting these rocks, and not even realize I was gone that long. Before I knew it, someone was coming down to the pit to get me, either to cook supper, or eat what they had cooked! My back and neck would ache like you wouldn't believe, and Advil became one of my very best friends.
I had no idea what I was going to do with these rocks, I was just collecting every one I could find, and putting them in buckets in my spare room. I started doing research to find out what other people were doing with their rocks, and I found tumbling! I bought a tumbler, one I could afford at the time, and started the process of shining my rocks. I was so excited when the first batch came out, I couldn't stand it. They were just so pretty! I had NO idea what I was going to do with them, but they were pretty anyway. In between the tumbling, and the hunting, I did even more research, and started seeing what other people would do with their rocks after polishing and all was done. I accidentally ran across a website, http://www.rocktumblinghobby.com/, where people talk about the processes, the ups and downs, and show off what they were making with their rocks. So much stuff in there, and some really nice people, too. Every single one of them is willing to help a person out, answer questions, or whatever you might need when it comes to rocks. I love that site!!!
Jewelry and wire wrapping began in September 2009, and I just cannot get enough of it....the rocks, or the jewelry making!!!
Boots and I have been friends for over 30 years, I was 14 when I met him. I never new that he had a love for rocks as well, guess it was just not one of those things we ever talked about. When he and I became a couple again, nearly a year ago, his love for rocks just bloomed. He has learned to make beautiful cabs, choose good quality stones, and we spend our days together, every day, enjoying the peace, and tranquility that working the rocks gives each of us.
Our time, love for each other & the rocks, are all poured in to everything we create.

Welcome to Superior Agates!
My goal is to provide you with the best stones & jewelry I can, at a reasonable price. All Lake Superior Agates, and Minnesota gemstones are harvested by myself, and family, right here in Minnesota. Lake Superior Agates are billions of years old, and are highly sought by many collectors in the U.S. and all around the world, because of their timeless beauty.

Thank you for Choosing a piece from Superior Agates!!

Your piece has been created completely from scratch, my husband and I do all of the cutting of the rough rock, shaping, and cabbing together, until we have a beautiful stone to create a piece of jewelry with. Finally, I do all of the wire wrapping of the stones. The stones I use in my wire wrapping are carefully chosen, and I am particular in the size and shape of the stones I wrap.

I use Good quality wire and supplies in my work. You will not find plated wires in my pieces. Further, due to a lot of people having skin allergies, I do not use coatings, or treatments of any kind on my wire. Some may use these products, especially on copper wire, to help it not tarnish, but I do not. Cleaning of most wires is very simple, and easy to do, without a lot of major expense. A simple solution of dish soap and water, with a tooth brush, will take care of most tarnish. If you have a piece that is heavily tarnished, you may want to take it to a jeweler to have it cleaned, a lot of jewelers will do this for free.

Caring for your new piece:
Your item is sent in a plastic baggie to protect it, when not being worn, keep it in the plastic baggie, and the box, so it is not exposed to the elements. This is the best way to slow down any tarnishing that will at some point happen. (no matter what wire it's made from)
Clean your piece periodically with dish soap and warm water and a tooth brush, making sure you rinse it thoroughly and dry it completely before storing it in the plastic baggie again
Do not use harsh cleaners on any stone, if you have tarnish that won't come off with simple cleaning, please, take it to a jeweler to be cleaned.

Please feel free to print this information when you purchase!!

Again, we thank you for choosing a Superior Agates original design!! We hope you enjoy your item for many years to come!
