On Etsy since 2010

We specialize in adventure making.

When I went to school to become an elementary school teacher, I never dreamed my love for pretend play, imagination, adventure, and children would transport me from Kindergarten teacher to cape maker.

14 years ago I left a career as a teacher to stay home when my first daughter was born. Shortly after, I began designing custom baby carriers after finding very little comfortable options for myself. From there I designed various baby and maternity items for boutiques and custom orders. I love practical, soft, and comfortable items for children.

My love for design, creating, and sewing always centered around my children. 4 little girls later, I have traded in my baby projects for items focused on creativity, pretend play, and imagination. It started with a "Wonder Pets" cape. I sewed that first cape for my Wonder Pet adoring 3 year old for Christmas. She beamed when she unwrapped the cape and her imagination took flight.

I never dreamed I'd go from lesson plans late at night to cape patterns and hero masks. As a teacher, I loved taking children on adventures through learning. In some ways not much has changed. I feel passionate about developing creativity and imagination in children and providing them all kinds of "tools" that make such development possible.

I am proud to specialize in adventure making.

I am also the owner of SKC APPAREL on etsy where you can find face masks, and t shirt, as well as SKC Studio where you can find flat lay and mock up downloads.

Frequently asked questions
How long will it take for my item to ship?

We ship most everything in 5-7 days from time of purchase! Some items may take longer to receive. Just check your item listing for the shipping timeline specifics.

*Holiday Shipping Nov/Dec 2020* The USPS is experiencing in their words, "unprecedented volume increases and limited employee availability due to the impacts of covid-19" We are finding this delay to be impacting many of the orders we have shipped. Though we shipped them early or on time, the USPS did not accurately estimate the delivery times and some items may experience significant delays. Please know we are doing everything in our power to check on orders and are in constant contact with the USPS.

What method do you use to ship?

We ship USPS first class mail and flat rate mail both within the US and outside the US. This includes delivery confirmation within the US. If you would prefer a different carrier used or have a Fedex or UPS account number you would like used, we can usually accommodate. Just ask!

What guarantees do you offer regarding a delivery date?

We can guarantee a departure date, and usually a delivery date if we are given enough time to fill your order. If you need something super fast, we can ship your items via express mail which will offer a guaranteed delivery date. However, during the current pandemic and significant mail delays we cannot make any guarantees beyond a departure date.

Can I cancel an order that has not yet arrived?

Unfortunately because everything is handmade for you, we cannot cancel an order once it has shipped. Sometimes unforeseen mail delays occur, if this happens we will do everything we can to keep you informed of the delays.

How do you handle lost or stolen packages?

Most of our orders include delivery confirmation information. We will not be held responsible for orders where the details show the package was delivered. In this case, you will need to contact whichever carrier was used to inquire about the delivery, or file a claim. You can file a missing package, or package inquiry at https://www.usps.com/help/missing-mail.htm

Is everything sewn down on your capes?

We take great pride in the craftsmanship of our capes. The capes are made from scratch in our workshop in Indiana. All the felt elements on the cape are sewn down. If a cape is personalized, either special heat transfer vinyl is used, or special heat transfer material that has been printed, and pressed with a professional grade heat press into the fabric.

What are the washing instructions for capes?

Yes! Our capes can be washed. While the satin we use is machine washable, as well as the felt, felt always stays nicest with minimal washing. We recommend spot cleaning first. But you can throw your cape in the washer on a delicate cycle. Then shake out, and hang or lay flat to dry.

What if my child does not like the item I purchased or will not wear it?

This almost never happens! We pride ourselves on our capes and costumes being greatly loved. However, if you are not happy with your item for any reason, contact us within 3 days to initiate a return and we will gladly begin the process. The exception to this, is any item that has been personalized with a full name. We cannot accept returns on items with cull personalization.

Can I cancel an order that has not yet arrived?

Unfortunately because everything is handmade for you, we cannot cancel an order once it has shipped. Sometimes unforeseen mail delays occur, if this happens we will do everything we can to keep you informed of the delays.

I don't see the colors I am looking for, can you make something customized?

Yes, we love custom orders! Just send us a message with the colors you are looking for and we will let you know what we can do. Please be aware, sometimes customizing beyond our regular offered colors will add a few days to the construction time.
