About

The Natural Progression of Becoming a Shop Owner!

I am a Canadian Quilter. There are alot of words that describe me, but Canadian Quilter is a huge part of what I am.

I learned about sewing and crochet, knitting and even paint-by-numbers at the side of my grandmothers, aunts and most especially by my Mother.

Like many young girls I used my sewing to earn money before I could legally hold a job. My mother taught me to make boxer shorts for my Dad, and then all of a sudden, my uncles wanted boxers, then I learned to sew a skirt, and girlfriends would 'order' a skirt from me. I totally enjoyed making these things for the people in my life, especially when I could go out and buy a Beatles album with my profit!

I guess you could say I have been around a while but I take pride in keeping up with the world and consider myself to be a life long learner. I love to learn and discover the things in the world around me, but at the same time I love history, and nostalgia and vintage!

For many years I worked with my brother buying items from estate and garage sales and auctions and operating booths or tables at flea markets and antique fairs. Now with the internet and digital photography, I have downsized my aquisitions to sewing supplies and an eclectic choice of household nostalgia. I love to sew and crochet, but do not have a big family to make things for, so many of my hand crafted items also become seasonal features here in my etsy shop.

I especially love to collect buttons and in recent months came upon family members who gave me their collections! Now, I don't need all those buttons, so many of them are for sale here in this shop. I really have alot of fun sifting through the cookie tins filled with buttons that a grandmother gave me, another huge bag of buttons came from a cousin, a quilting buddy clearing her stash brought me a thousand or so white buttons. I spend hours, sorting and cleaning, photographing and posting the buttons here to the store, but have barely made a dent in the ones yet to sort and sell!

I am now mainly a stay at home wife and mother, not quite of retirement age so I find operating and organizing, listing and searching out special items for the shop to be a fun way to fill my days.

Now, because I have sold and bought things for quite a while now, I take pride in the best service I can give you and have learned that service is the real heart of sales. If you have a question or a comment, I would love to be able to respond to you and answer any query you might have. I like to think of my store as a booth at the flea market where I can say hello to all who pass by whether or not you actually buy something from me!

Other than being a shopkeeper here, I also write feature articles for The Canadian Quilter Magazine, which is the quarterly magazine for the Canadian Quilters Association. I enjoy writing and passing along the things I have learned so I also wrote a regular column in Canadian Quilter called Miss Snips Notebook, which was mainly about quilting tips, ideas, and small tutorials.

I now keep a blog called Susan Being Snippy at http://susanbeingsnippy.blogspot.com and venture not only into quilting but crochet, and occasionally vignettes of adventures and scenic drives in the Fraser Valley and West Coast of British Columbia.

My Homelife is now quite peaceful and I consider myself to be one of the luckiest girls in the world. I have a long time partner (40 years now) and a townhouse that we renovated in 2010 that suits me to a "T". Our home is shared with our three year old Border Collie, Pearl, who is way too fast for me, and with two cats, Archie, a 5 year old Siamese, and Walter, a tuxedo cat who is only just a year old and it a real character! He turns off and on light switches, knocks the phone off the hook when it rings (so no point in leaving a message when I am not home, cause he doesn't let the phone ring long enough!) and wrestles with Pearl and licks her ears!

I strive to spend part of my day creating things for my shop, or listing things or doing the little details that need attending to and totally enjoy the freedom I have to decide what, when and where I want to work.

I love my job!

I hope you love my shop!

I have always been the kind of person to find things for other people. I like to look out for special items that others may consider special, too. My inspiration is my mother and aunts who were always thrift store shoppers

Shipping
**Orders to Canadian Addresses please convo me before completing your order to receive a coupon discount code ONLY to Canadian Addresses - this is to adjust for the exchange rate difference between Canada and US dollar of about 15%

All items to USA customers are shipped from Sumas, WA once each week -- usually mid week. I ship via USPS by the appropriate shipping class for the type of item.

For Canadian and other Countries I ship regular parcel post from a Canada Post office near me. Canada Post delivery time for regular parcels are usually 1 to 2 weeks within Canada.

For parcels to Australia, New Zealand and UK, regular surface (by boat) parcels can take up to 10 weeks for delivery. My shipping cost is calculated at "surface" shipping. If you want quicker delivery of your item please convo or email me first as shipping via AIR is double or triple the cost and I will adjust the shipping cost on your item accordingly -- Shipping by AIR will still take about 2 to 3 weeks.

Some countries, have very stringent import standards, so please be aware before you buy whether or not your country allows the import of certain items as I cannot be responsible for items confiscated by your country's customs service.

I do not guarrantee arrival of items for particular holidays such as Christmas or Birthdays, so please order well ahead.
Refunds and Exchanges
Every effort has been made to photograph the items for sale clearly so you can see exactly what you are purchasing. I do not generally offer refunds of the items that I list but if there was something that was misrepresented, I will consider a price reduction or credit towards another item in my shop. There are no refunds on patterns or books or magazines. I am a small shop owner here and my intention is to live up to the motto "Satisfaction Guaranteed" Please email before returning an item so that I am aware of the reasons for its return and the method that you are sending it back to me.

Items sent to countries other than USA or Canada are the responsibility of the receiver, all customs fees or items confiscated or disallowed items to countries other than USA or CANADA are the responsibility of the receiver -- it is up to you to know what your country will allow, THEREFORE I DO NOT REFUND POSTAGE or ITEM COST to ANY area other than USA or CANADA. I do not refund postage for any reason.

There is no international tracking from Canada and some destinations can take quite a long time. 6 weeks is not unusual.
Additional policies and FAQs
Almost all the items that I have in my shop are previously owned, but not necessarily used. I purchase most of my sewing patterns and craft books from thrift or antique shops or estate sales. All sewing patterns that I have listed in my shop have been carefully checked to ensure that the pattern is complete, most have never been unfolded or cut. Books and magazines are sold as complete with no missing pages or damage that makes them unreadable, but may have some wear such as folded corners or handwriting in margins or covers.
