About

Once Upon a Time...

Hi!
I hope you're getting some chuckles while glancing over items in my shop! It's a heartfelt reward for me to get positive reactions of those viewing my work, as making people feel good in my everyday and creative world is what I most like to do.

Some background...

I don't recall ever NOT loving to draw. As a small child, I'd curl up on my bed copying & tracing comic book characters, then go on to making silly cards for friends & family. At around 11 years of age, I began painting landscapes and portraits after being surprised with an entire oil paints set for Christmas. Fast forward to high school, where I began entering art contests. One contest got me a summer scholarship to an art class at the Chicago Art Institute, which stirred my interest of creating fine art along with cartoons.

Once out of school I worked in the J.C. Penny Advertising Department in Los Angeles, where I worked until I had my first of two children, Jeana & Katy. As a stay-at-home mom, I went on to marketing my humorous art to companies hiring freelancers. Most of the writings & illustrations I was hired for have been published in children's picture books, juvenile magazine & stationery lines, adult chapter books, holiday greeting cards, and more. Most of it with humor.

My education didn't include an art school. I'm basically self-taught but owe a huge part of my skills to a man who was a veteran animator for Warner Bros Studio, Ben Washam. His credits appear on many of the Tom & Jerry, Road Runner, Bugs Bunny, (and on & on) cartoons. We met inside the MGM animation studio in Hollywood as I was being given a tour of the department. He was working on a film at the time. After our introduction, he said he was about to start an informal animation class in his home. I asked to be a part of it —nothing ventured, nothing gained! The class was beyond interesting, educational, and fun, and I attended each weekly class for over a year.

If you're an artist you know how fulfilling creativity is! If you're not, I know you have your own skills and passions. The fact that you're here tells me we have something in common... most likely a sense of humor and an appreciation for things that are slightly bent. Whatever the case, I'm so happy you stopped by!
