Note from shop owner I make buttons and jewellery in porcelain clay, and make pots and yarn bowls from stoneware clay. I decorate with various glazes, imprints of lace, Indian wooden print blocks, and printed decal designs.

About

Everything starts with a bag of clay.

Porcelain.
I love it’s whiteness, and it’s softness and the fact that it won’t quite be tamed. It loves to warp, to twist and to distort, whether it’s buttons or pots, it behaves the same way. Roll or throw the clay, at the moment it’s roll the clay, that’s how buttons and brooches and earrings all start. Big rolling pin.

I learned how to throw pots whilst at University where I had the chance to play with clay, glass and other media. I wanted to work with small items such as buttons, but had not got the time to do the throwing and the small items, so they had to wait a while.

It has taken me a few years to get my studio and kiln up and running, but I now love my job and it has been a dream that has been a while coming. I did work experience with expert potter, Jack Doherty, and first learned about porcelain. It was then I decided I wanted to make my living from working with clay, and that was 2003.

Sometimes you have to hang on to your dreams, they will eventually come true.
