I purchased this egg to go on my Easter table next year but also because it is vintage--the end of an era. No doubt the painting of the eggs is handed down from one generation to the next but because it is a specific type "Russian Pysanky" I wanted to be extra sure to include it among my thanks at Easter. It is also a sign of spring when the earth is renewed again.

Beautiful spoons. My grandparents worked at the Edgewater Beach Hotel, so this was a sentimental purchase for me. And even nicely polished!
At Home With Vintage
Living and feeling "at home" with found objects is not just a decorating style, it becomes a way of life. Bringing vintage items into any home and living with the history they bring with them makes any space inherently more interesting and inviting.
After we bought our first house I needed to decorate it, and on a very limited budget. We had just had our 2nd child and I had quit my job to be a stay-at-home Mom. Money was tight, but thankfully our house was tiny...only 985 square feet. Every Saturday I drove to yard sales, second hand shops, flea markets and the occasional estate sale, looking for good vintage pieces. Over the course of time our house became a home, furnished with these found objects. As I happened upon older, better pieces, newer made pieces would be replaced. What started out as a necessity grew into a passion.
Now, many years and a couple of homes later, our living space is eclectic and comfortable. It's an ever changing showcase for everything from classic antique stoneware bowls and vintage walking sticks to unique handmade folk art boxes and carved bears. We're adding industrial to the mix, too, with items made from found objects that our youngest son creates. I think our home is a reflection of where our family has been and it inspires us to keep moving forward while being mindful of the past. Take a peek at some of my collections, above.
I enjoy offering up beloved old things that hopefully inspire you to feel at home with vintage.
I'm a wife and a mother, plus curator, photographer and customer service department of this little shop called "susantique". They're all roles I take seriously and hats I enjoy wearing every day of my life.
Metal crafter, welder, carpenter, rescuer and rejuvenator of discarded objects. Only occasionally lists seasonal items in this shop from time to time.
