About susatalan
A single micron pen and an old sketchbook.
I have loved language and art since I was old enough to explore both. After many years of painting and mixed media work, I felt something creative in me needed time to gestate. I took a long hiatus and stopped making art all together.
One day, in 2009, without plan or preamble, I picked up a single micron pen and an old sketchbook. I started drawing. All kinds of things came out. Birds and bicycles, trees and fruit and food and imaginary plants. I traveled the globe and kept drawing. Eventually I found my way to a teeny tiny studio in western Massachusetts.
In December, 2012, on my 39th birthday, I launched "365 Days of Gratitude" and committed to giving myself a year of daily gratitude, a year of making illustrations, a year of creative discipline.
Many of the images from the 365 Days of Gratitude project have happily grown into greeting cards and prints that are being sold in bookstores and small shops throughout the US. I'm also thrilled to have self-published my first annual 'cultivate gratitude' calendar for 2015.
I love being part of the handmade, hand-drawn community of independent artists and makers as well as the writers, poets and observers of the world. I also love the value of being mindfully awake to my life. In nature, at home, walking, moving, being. I try to weave all these elements of my life together in my work.
